About the Role
This is a fantastic opportunity for newly qualified or experienced Registered Building Inspectors to join the Council’s Building Control Team.

About You
We are looking for Registered Building Inspectors to manage an area within the Borough and assist the team as a whole to maintain its current outstandingly high level of service. Duties will include ensuring decisions on applications are made within the statutory period, undertaking site inspections so that works carried out on site comply with the building regulations, inspecting Dangerous Structures, providing out of hours and office cover.
We are seeking applicants with a good level of literacy and numeracy together with excellent IT skills.&nbsp; You will also need to be committed to delivering a first-class customer focused service in a competitive environment and marketing the department and Local Authority Building Control (LABC).
The ability to make clear concise and accurate decisions on the spot and under pressure is essential. You will ideally be a member of the CABE, RICS or CIOB. A current full UK driving licence and daily access to a car for business purposes are required, for which expenses will be paid.

We are looking for someone able to assist with promoting, communicating, and engaging across the organisation on building safety matters, including collaboration with residents, leaseholders, internal teams, and external stakeholders. Therefore, you must be confident in open and clear communication. Actively contributing on ‘whole building safety’ matters in all meetings internally and externally regarding allocated buildings.
You will be collaborating with relevant teams to raise the profile of the Building Safety Team and awareness of its objectives and activities, working closely with the Strategic Building Safety team colleagues.&nbsp;
This role will work to ensure that fire safety and building safety activities are correctly tracked and traceable through the Golden Thread, to ensure sufficient evidence is readily available to all stakeholders.
The responsibilities will include contract management of consultants and service providers to source and for the provision of building safety information for the buildings within their remit.
Supporting the Building Safety Managers, by fulfilling and carrying out various duties and building safety measures, required by the Building Safety Act and secondary legislation.
Supporting the Building Safety Managers in their duties to ensure that in-scope buildings within their management remit are safe to occupy, that they continue to be safe to occupy and that they comply with the relevant regulations, as well as taking initiatives to ensure residents also feel safe.
The Assistants will work to regularly review maintenance and testing activities and outcomes, consider all potential risks, including fire and structural matters, whilst delivering high quality building safety management in line with policy, procedures, legislation and government guidance.

The role will include procurement of specialist services along with control and management of key building safety data. As such you will be expected to ensure all L&amp;Q’s procurement processes and standing order rules are followed, whilst having a strong working knowledge of L&amp;Q Housing Management, Financial, Compliance Management, and record keeping systems.
Candidates will have expert knowledge in the building safety which will include the operational maintenance of key active fire systems along with other building specific M&amp;E systems and arrangements.
You must be a first-class communicator with experience working with a variety of different stakeholders including residents and resident groups and committees, Corporate Health and Safety, Housing Management teams, and other Property Services teams.
Requirements for this role include:

<h3>About the Role</h3>
We’re looking for Senior Registered Building Inspectors to take on a pivotal role within our Planning &amp; Building Standards service. In this important position, you’ll act in a senior capacity within our Building Control team, providing a comprehensive range of professional services for a designated area both within and beyond the Borough of Haringey.
As well as plan checking and carrying out site inspections, the roll also includes mentoring and supervising the junior staff members, handling validations, and taking the lead on the determination of the more complex Building regulations applications. You will also be responsible for enforcement activities and dangerous structures inspections, both during the working day and as part of a rota for out of hours inspections.
Haringey Building Control are also responsible for safety at Sports Grounds in the Borough, and offer technical safety advise and inspections for other Licensed events in the Borough. Part of the role will also include assisting the BSR with applications on high risk buildings and ensuring that their KPIs are met. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute significantly to improving the built environment for residents and businesses in Haringey, and to be at the forefront of implementing the new building safety regime.

Haringey’s Building Control team is nationally recognised, having been shortlisted as a finalist for the Local Authority Building Control Team of the Year at the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2024. The borough continues to be at the heart of exciting developments, set to become London Borough of Culture in 2027 as ‘the Rebel Borough’ and hosting the Euros European Football Championship in Tottenham in 2028. Based in Wood Green, opposite the Piccadilly Line tube station, the team thrives in a supportive, collaborative environment and embraces progressive working practices, including flexible and home-working.
<h3>About You</h3>
As a Senior Registered Building Inspector, you’ll bring substantial relevant experience in the delivery and supervision of building control services, demonstrating a deep understanding of buildings within the scope of the Building Safety Regulator. You’ll be registered with the Building Safety Regulator at Class 3 Categories G-H and Class 2 Categories A-F and ideally be educated to degree level in a relevant subject or possess equivalent demonstrable learning.
You’ll be a member of a relevant professional body such as RICS, ABE, CABE, or CIOB. Your excellent understanding of building regulations and processes will be critical, alongside your ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and technical information. &nbsp;In addition, you will be adept at implementing change and improvement processes, motivating others, and consistently producing high-quality work under pressure.
Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills are essential and will enable you to communicate effectively with diverse audiences, while your ability to build confident and trusting relationships will be key to engaging local communities and stakeholders. Furthermore, you’ll be a natural at negotiating successfully and influencing outcomes with tact and diplomacy.
