About Haringey

Haringey is a fantastic place to live and work – the world in one borough. A place brimming with creativity, personality, radicalism, and community. It is a place where we stand up for each other. A place that is proudly distinctive. We’ll be celebrating all this and more as the “rebel borough” when we are the 2027 London Borough of Culture.

Our history champions change-makers and everyday rebels; revelling in our differences, battling discrimination, championing equality, and doing things our own way. Haringey’s people are a huge asset, with knowledge, expertise, and passion. Our staff members embody our organisational values: Caring, Creative, Courageous, Collaborative and Community-focused. These values keep us looking forward, ambitious for the future, and continuously striving to do our very best for all of our residents.

About the Role

We’re looking for Senior Registered Building Inspectors to take on a pivotal role within our Planning & Building Standards service. In this important position, you’ll act in a senior capacity within our Building Control team, providing a comprehensive range of professional services for a designated area both within and beyond the Borough of Haringey.

As well as plan checking and carrying out site inspections, the roll also includes mentoring and supervising the junior staff members, handling validations, and taking the lead on the determination of the more complex Building regulations applications. You will also be responsible for enforcement activities and dangerous structures inspections, both during the working day and as part of a rota for out of hours inspections.

Haringey Building Control are also responsible for safety at Sports Grounds in the Borough, and offer technical safety advise and inspections for other Licensed events in the Borough. Part of the role will also include assisting the BSR with applications on high risk buildings and ensuring that their KPIs are met. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute significantly to improving the built environment for residents and businesses in Haringey, and to be at the forefront of implementing the new building safety regime.

About the Team

Haringey’s Building Control team is nationally recognised, having been shortlisted as a finalist for the Local Authority Building Control Team of the Year at the LABC Building Excellence Awards 2024. The borough continues to be at the heart of exciting developments, set to become London Borough of Culture in 2027 as ‘the Rebel Borough’ and hosting the Euros European Football Championship in Tottenham in 2028. Based in Wood Green, opposite the Piccadilly Line tube station, the team thrives in a supportive, collaborative environment and embraces progressive working practices, including flexible and home-working.

About You

As a Senior Registered Building Inspector, you bring substantial experience in delivering and supervising building control services, underpinned by a strong understanding of buildings within the scope of the Building Safety Regulator. You are a confident, collaborative professional who can manage complexity, drive quality, and influence positive outcomes across a range of stakeholders.

You will bring:

  • Registered with the Building Safety Regulator (minimum Class 2F), with a degree in a relevant discipline or equivalent demonstrable experience
  • Membership of a relevant professional body such as RICS, ABE, CABE, or CIOB
  • Strong technical knowledge of building regulations, standards, and control processes
  • Proven ability to read and interpret drawings, plans, and technical documentation
  • Experience implementing change and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Ability to motivate and support others while maintaining high standards under pressure
  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex information clearly
  • Skilled in building trusted relationships with stakeholders, communities, and partners
  • Confident negotiator with the ability to influence outcomes using tact and diplomacy
