We’re looking for a creative and enthusiastic Communications Specialist to help Wokingham Borough Council deliver its key messages, and engage with communities through digital content, social media and campaigns as well as traditional forms of media such as print and broadcast.
This is an exciting chance to join a small but innovative team. As Communications Specialist, you will play a vital role in delivering tactical communications to build trust and confidence in what we do by using a range of channels to keep staff informed, engaged and motivated and the public aware and involved.
With responsibility for day-to-day internal and external communications, no one day is the same. One day you might be supporting a colleague with a proactive communications plan or using your creative digital skills to reach new audiences and the next, writing engaging copy for the Staff Intranet and advising directors and lead councillors on issues.
It’s a busy environment and you will need to be a talented all-rounder with excellent writing skills for digital and print content, with a flair for turning complex information into Plain English. You will also need to be familiar with working in a demanding press office – often working to very tight deadlines.
You will need an flexible approach, as occasional evening and weekend work will be required, as well as being able to work well under pressure. Whilst not essential, Photoshop / InDesign skills would help with this creative role. Although based in Wokingham, you will also have the opportunity to work flexibly.
If you are interested in this post and require more details after reading the job description please contact Andrea Jenkins, Lead Communications Specialist, on (0118) 974 6010.
