<h4>Job summary</h4><p>We are looking for a Content Designer who is enthusiastic about user-centred design and wants to make a positive impact in helping to protect residents and improve the safety and standard of all buildings in England. Our ambition is to produce a best-in-class web presence that delivers BSR guidance, content and services that meet user needs.</p><p><strong>Working pattern</strong></p><p>Part-time working hours are available for this role. We can accept part time applicants who can commit to working a minimum of 30 hours per week. Flexible working is also available.</p><h4>Job description</h4><p>The government announced on 30 June 2025 that the Building Safety Regulator (BSR) is to become an Arm's Length Body (ALB) of Ministry for Housing, Communities, and Local Government (MHCLG) and will be moved out of HSE. This is the natural next step in the development of the regulator and was always a likely outcome once BSR was established. It has been confirmed that the ALB will be a Non-crown, Non-Departmental Public Body (NDPB), and as such its employees will be Public Servants, rather than Civil Servants. </p><p>Any successful candidates recruited to this vacancy will initially be onboarded to HSE, with a move to the new NDBP to be undertaken in due course.</p><p>The role requires a practitioner with content design experience who will define and assure best practice, making sure our content aligns to BSR’s strategy and objectives, while meeting the needs of our users. You will work with the content design team, service teams and policy to produce guidance, content and services. This job has been mapped to the <a href="https://ddat-capability-framework.service.gov.uk/" target="_blank">Digital, Data and Technology Profession Capability Framework - GOV.UK</a> and will use the knowledge of <a href="https://www.gov.uk/service-manual/the-team/what-each-role-does-in-service-team%20" target="_blank">Government Digital Service</a> ways of working and design roles.</p><p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p><ul><li>Create, test and iterate user-centred content, making complex language and processes easier to understand</li><li>Use analytics, user feedback, and user research to evaluate and identify issues or opportunities to improve content</li><li>Build relationships with stakeholders (subject matter experts) to understand their goals and work with them to improve user journeys and content maintain relationships with other user-centred design professionals in BSR (Building Safety Regulator), HSE (Health and Safety Executive) and across-government</li><li>Help with quality assuring content design work, undertaking 2nd checks and content 'crits' </li><li>Pitch your concepts and solutions, and negotiate and agree briefs and schedules</li><li>Work with others to identify and agree criteria for monitoring the performance and impact of content </li></ul><br><h4>Person specification</h4><p><strong>Essential Skills and Criteria</strong></p><p> You will have: </p><ul><li>Experience of working as a content designer or in a similar role </li><li>Ability to translate complex or technical concepts into clear and useful content </li><li>Experience of using data, user feedback, and user research to improve content or a product </li><li>Ability to work on multiple projects with numerous stakeholders, and adapt to changing priorities and deadlines </li><li>Experience of digital accessibility standards</li><li>Interpersonal skills, with the ability to adapt your communication style to work in teams with digital and non-digital professionals</li></ul><p><strong>Travel</strong></p><p>This post can be based in any of the advertised locations, although some travel to our Bootle office will be required for collaborative working and meetings.
