Leicestershire Police is looking for dedicated <strong>Mounted Police Support Volunteers</strong> to join our Rural Crime Team. Working both with or without your horse you’ll be helping to tackle issues affecting our countryside and providing support to the community.</p><p><strong>What You’ll Be Doing:</strong></p><p>As a Mounted Support Volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in rural crime prevention and community engagement. Your tasks may include:</p><ul><li>Supporting rural crime prevention initiatives and local policing operations.</li><li>Building relationships with farms and rural businesses while exercising your horse.</li><li>Increasing police visibility in targeted areas to deter antisocial behaviour.</li><li>Offering crime prevention advice and tack marking services.</li><li>Promoting safety and good citizenship, especially among vulnerable groups.</li><li>Educating officers on horse handling and equine safety.</li><li>Representing Leicestershire Police at schools, equestrian clubs, and community events.</li></ul><p><strong>What You’ll Need:</strong></p><ul><li>Be aged 18 or over.</li><li>Be an experienced and confident rider (subject to assessment).</li><li>Have access to a horse and suitable transport.</li><li>Hold adequate insurance for your horse and property.</li><li>Be a team player with strong communication skills.</li></ul><p><strong>What training and support you will receive:</strong></p><p>You will be joining an established team of experienced and supportive volunteers. We have a Lead Volunteer for the team and part of their role is to support other volunteers, they will be able to assist you with any problems or questions you may have throughout your time as a Police Support Volunteer with Leicestershire Police. They are the public face of the police, offering a visible, accessible, and friendly presence to provide reassurance, prevent conflicts, build trust, collect information, and promote positive community relationships.</p><p>In this role, PCSOs have specific legal powers to enforce laws in line with local force requirements, aiding in the resolution, prevention, and deterrence of crime. They handle a broad spectrum of non-criminal matters that affect community vulnerability and safety. PCSOs must use their powers appropriately and acting within force guidelines.</p><p><strong>Salary and Shift Allowance</strong></p><ul><li><strong>Grade 3 (£26,106 - £29,109)</strong></li><li><strong>£26,106</strong> for the first 9 weeks of training.</li><li><strong>£34,922</strong> after training to include shift allowance and weekend working. You will receive 14% shift allowance after the initial 9-week training period.</li><li>Successful applicants would normally be appointed on the bottom of the salary range (Exceptions may apply).</li></ul><p><strong>Key Accountabilities</strong></p><ul><li>As a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO), you’ll be out and about on foot, in uniform, becoming a familiar and reassuring presence in your local community. You’ll get to know your patch and the people in it, working closely with them to tackle the issues that matter most—like reducing crime and anti-social behaviour, and helping everyone feel safer and more connected.</li><li>You’ll build strong relationships with local councils, schools, housing associations, and community groups. By working together, you’ll help support vulnerable individuals, share important information, and promote a sense of unity and trust.</li><li>A big part of your role will be about listening—really listening—to people. Whether it’s someone at risk, a concerned neighbour, or a young person needing guidance, you’ll be there to offer support, understand their needs, and help prevent problems before they escalate.</li><li>While on patrol, you’ll respond to incidents you come across, using your powers to deal with situations directly or calling in police officers when needed. You’ll play a key role in resolving low-level offences and keeping things from getting out of hand.</li><li>You’ll also be knocking on doors—not just to investigate, but to connect. You’ll carry out house-to-house enquiries, offer crime prevention advice, and find out what’s affecting residents so you can help make things better.</li><li>This isn’t just a job—it’s a long-term commitment to your community. We’re looking for people who are passionate about making a lasting impact and who are ready to be a consistent, trusted presence in the area they serve.</li><li>You’ll also support evidence-based policing by applying problem-solving techniques and proven approaches to help shape safer, stronger neighbourhoods.</li></ul><p><strong>The must haves</strong></p><ul><li>Level 2 English (GCSE Grade 9-4) (A-C) or equivalent, or able to use English Language to that standard.</li><li>Hold a full manual driving licence for cars and be willing to drive a vehicle owned by Leicestershire Police (Reasonable adjustments will be considered in line with the Equality Act 2010).</li><li>You must be 17 ½ years old on application and 18 years old on appointment.</li><li>You must be available to work between 8.00am and 11.00pm, seven days a week.</li><li>Willingness to patrol independently, including lone patrol on late shifts.</li><li>You must have sufficient fitness to patrol the streets on foot or bicycle for long periods of time and in all weather conditions.</li></ul><p><strong>What’s in it for you? </strong></p><p>At Leicestershire Police, we want to create an environment that puts people first, so you feel supported in everything you do.
