This is a public-facing, outdoor role where you’ll be responsible for helping to manage traffic flow and ensure parking regulations are followed. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys being active, working independently, and interacting with the public.Key Responsibilities<ul><li>Patrolling streets and car parks on foot or in a vehicle to monitor parking compliance.</li><li>Issuing Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs) to vehicles parked in contravention of regulations.</li><li>Providing assistance to the public, including:<ul><li>Directions to local attractions or services</li><li>Information about parking rules and locations</li></ul></li><li>Reporting issues such as damaged signs, road hazards, or abandoned vehicles.</li><li>Using handheld devices to record information and communicate with the team.</li></ul>You don’t need prior experience—full training is provided—but the following qualities are essential:<ul><li>Excellent communication: You’ll be the face of the council, so being approachable and clear is key.</li><li>Customer service: Helping people with a wide range of queries, not just parking-related.</li><li>Physical fitness: You’ll walk several miles a day, often in varying weather conditions.</li><li>Teamwork and independence: You’ll work solo most of the time but stay in regular contact with your team.</li></ul>Working Hours<ul><li>Schedule: 7.4 hours per day, 5 days a week</li><li>Shifts: Between 7:30 AM and 7:00 PM, on a two-week rotating cycle</li><li>Includes: Regular weekend work</li></ul>Requirements<ul><li>No previous experience required</li><li>Full UK Driving License </li><li>Standard DBS check (Disclosure and Barring Service) must be passed</li></ul>Training &amp; Development:<ul><li>Full induction and ongoing professional development opportunities</li></ul>Benefits<ul><li>In addition to your salary, receive a sign-on payment of £2,100 (50% paid on completion of probation and 50% at 18 months) This is for new staff joiners to TWBC, not internal applicants.</li><li>22 days per year, increases to 27 days after 5 years of continuous Local Government service</li><li>Plus 3 extra days off in December</li><li>Generous Local Government Pension Scheme</li><li>Free parking near the Town Hall</li><li>Free tea, coffee and wellbeing perks like an EAP, flu jabs, eyecare vouchers and more</li></ul>Equal OpportunitiesTunbridge Wells – Working for Equality.
