The British Council is the UK’s international organisation for cultural relations and educational opportunities. We create friendly knowledge and understanding between the people of the UK and other countries. We do this by making a positive contribution to UK and the countries we work with – changing lives by creating opportunities, building connections and engendering trust.
We work in over 100 countries across the world in the fields of arts and culture, English language, education and civil society. Each year we reach over 20 million people face to face and more than 500 million people online, via broadcasts and publications.
About Education & Society:
Through our work in Education and Society we provide opportunities for people to broaden their horizons and build sustainable futures. Our work in Education aims to raise the quality of education globally and connect people across the globe to share perspectives, best practice and ultimately improve learning outcomes. Our work contributes to global education policy, supports international mobility and collaboration and promotes the UK as a world leader in education and research.
Our Society programmes enable individuals, communities and governments to work together to make positive transformation where it matters - from strengthening civil society, to widening access to justice and promoting the rule of law.
Our work also includes social enterprise, girls’ and women’s inclusion, youth and sport. The aim is to help build stronger, safer and more inclusive societies.
We have a new opportunity for a Contract Manager to join us on a 2 year fixed term contract. Working in a small team you will provide Contract Management and Procurement advice and guidance to Education and Society, (and a range of other internal clients), to support the pursuit and delivery of business opportunities that maximise benefits to the British Council and minimise risks, in accordance with agreed frameworks and policies. The successful candidate will need to be experienced in contracting and be able to identify and advise on contractual risks as early as possible in the concept formation and bid production phases and throughout the project life cycle.
What we require of the successful candidate:
- Experience of contracting, (including but not limited to drafting, negotiation and review of contractual documentation), contract management and related legal areas. Understanding of UK contract law and statutory requirements and how these are applied in a programme / project management context.
- Competent across the range of IT systems and packages used by the business (SAP, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, database design and maintenance)
- Project Management Experience
If you are interested in the post and feel that you are suitable for the role, then we would really like to hear from you. Please apply by 30 July 2017 (23:59 UK Time)
Our Equality Commitment:
Valuing diversity is essential to the British Council’s work. We aim to abide by and promote equality legislation by following both the letter and the spirit of it to avoid unjustified discrimination, recognising discrimination as a barrier to equality of opportunity, inclusion and human rights. All staff worldwide are required to ensure their behaviour is consistent with our policies, and finance as a function is absolutely committed to this.
The British Council is committed to a policy of equal opportunity and is keen to reflect the diversity of UK society at every level within the organisation. We welcome applications from all sections of the community. In line with the British Council's Child Protection policy, any appointment is contingent on thorough checks. In the UK, and in other countries where appropriate systems exist, these include criminal records checks.
