We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic teacher to join our high achieving and experienced Computer Science team. You will find yourself within a knowledgeable, open-minded and proactive team.
At Reading School, our students are keen to learn and demonstrate an excellent standard of behaviour. We are looking for a teacher who is passionate about computing and is as willing to learn new things as our students are.
Outstanding subject knowledge is required, with experience of programming, as Reading School students arrive at the school with excellent mathematical foundations and, through curiosity and hard work, often develop exceptional understanding of the subject.
We need a colleague who can bring the best out of classes of committed learners at exam level as well as enthusiastically fostering students’ interest at KS3. An ability to teach up to KS5 would be highly desirable. Computer Science is regarded as an integral component of the curriculum and is valued by students,
parents and staff within the school.
The Computer Science department is a crucial part of our commitment to being a forward-thinking world-leading institution.
Over 50% of our students choose Computer Science as a GCSE option, with two or three classes opting to pursue the A-level course yearly. At GCSE, students follow the AQA (8525) Computer Science specification and, at A Level, the AQA (7517) Computer Science specification. We teach Python programming at KS3 and KS4 and transition to C# in KS5.
The successful candidate will be given opportunities to further develop their subject knowledge and we are dedicated to facilitating further career progression and CPD. They will be joining an established department with three experienced members of staff, entering a welcoming and supportive working environment that values work life balance, humour and honesty.
The wider school community is one that truly values the strengths of each member of staff and there are always chances to explore your interests and passions outside of your subject through our timetabled electives programme. Our ideal candidate must be passionate about Computer Science and ready to nurture enquiry.
This commitment, and a strong Computer Science degree or background in a closely related field of work is more important to us than qualified teacher status.
At Reading School, we have a clear educational philosophy and a deeply rooted commitment to social mobility. In all we do we seek to nurture character and develop academic excellence, and we know that what we do really matters. More than 10% of our Year 7 students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and we are proud of the difference that we make. In 2023, the school was rated the Sunday Times South East State School of the Year.
