We recognise that governors’ responsibilities are wide ranging and to this end we are committed to supporting you with the training, guidance and support you need in order to develop your skills and expertise and make a real and lasting impact on school improvement.</p>\n<p>School governors provide strategic leadership and accountability in schools including the appointment of the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher. No one governor can act on their own without the proper authority from the full governing board. Each individual governor is a member of a governing board, which is established in law as a corporate body. Decisions are the joint responsibility of the governing board</p>\n<p>The role of the governing board is a strategic one, it has three core responsibilities:</p>\n<ol>\n<li>Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction.</li>\n<li>Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils; and</li>\n<li>Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.</li>\n</ol>\n<p>In order to achieve these responsibilities, the Governing Board works with the school on planning and developing polices and keeping the school under review.
