The Committee Administration team in Havering are responsible for arranging and supporting a wide range of meetings attended by Councillors, officers and members of the public. From meetings of the full Council and Cabinet to scrutiny meetings and school admission appeals and exclusion reviews, we work with a wide range of parties to ensure successful meetings that facilitate the work of the Council. We work closely with the 54 elected Councillors as well as heads of Council departments and of course local residents and other stakeholders in Havering and beyond.

In this role, you will act as clerk to a range of meetings with responsibility for publishing agendas, ensuring meetings run smoothly and that they meet relevant legal requirements. These could include school admission appeal or exclusion review hearings, overview and scrutiny committees or meetings related to the Council’s planning and licensing functions. You will deal with a wide variety of stakeholders such as Councillors, solicitors and senior Council officers, as well as members of the public.
Your role will also cover the taking of minutes, publishing these on the Council’s website where appropriate and a range of follow-up actions after a meeting.
If you are good at taking notes or summarising the main outcomes from a meeting, this role may be right for you. You won't necessarily need direct experience but you will need to be motivated, willing to learn and have good communication skills as you will need to be able to deal productively with Councillors, officers and members of the public. In particular you will have the ability to write effective minutes and other types of material using a high level of written English language skills. A good knowledge of IT is desirable.
