About us
In Camden we are committed to working together to make our borough the best place to live, work, study and visit. Partnership with our communities is central to the way we work, so that everyone can access opportunities and nobody gets left behind.
The role
We have an exciting opportunity in our Estates Services team within Neighbourhoods, to recruit a number of Caretakers to provide a visible presence and trusted service to ensure the delivery of a flexible, responsive, high-quality service on our housing estates, and a small number of street properties that receive a caretaking service. Caretakers ensure a high standard of cleanliness to internal elements of residential buildings, in addition to the external areas within the boundaries of an estate. Core responsibilities include monitoring contractors working on-site, carrying out quality control checks, monitoring refuse collections and the work of the Council’s grounds maintenance contractors. You will be required to report repairs and issues relating to anti-social behaviour, as well as work with residents, tenant and resident associations or other resident-led groups.
Caretakers will have a designated patch and can work at any site in the borough. They are responsible for ensuring that estates remain safe, clean, and secure. Caretakers are the face of Camden Council and must be smart and presentable, ensuring that the provided uniform is always worn. Core working hours are Monday to Thursday 8.00am – 4.15pm (8.00am - 4.00pm on Fridays).
About you
The successful candidates will be experienced in identifying and reporting communal repairs and undertaking project work such as painting and minor repairs. You will be willing to attend emergencies on Camden sites during normal working hours working at any Camden sites as required. You will also have good communication skills (verbal and written) and the ability to work on your own, as well as part of a team, to achieve results.
The ideal candidate will have strong customer service and communication skills and will be able to engage and resolve a wide range of issues. You will also have a good working knowledge of estate cleanliness, including safe working practices such as knowledge of health & safety and COSHH regulations. You will have a proven track record of working on a busy housing estate providing a high standard of cleaning. You will be required to demonstrate good interpersonal skills and be able to work collaboratively with a wide variety of people including a broad range of internal and external agencies.
If you have the drive and ability to build a career in one of Camden’s most diverse and exciting services, we would like to hear from you. This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and DBS checks will be undertaken for all successful candidates prior to appointment.
