Active Hastings Youth Development Officer
Location:&nbsp;Muriel Matters House, Hastings (hybrid working available)
Salary:&nbsp;£27,254-£31,022 (Grade 8, SCP 9-17)
Contract:&nbsp;Indefinite, full-time (37 hours per week)
This is a fantastic opportunity to join the Active Hastings team and drive positive change by helping more children and young people across the borough take part in sport and physical activity.
Active Hastings is a partnership between Hastings Borough Council and East Sussex County Council. Together, we aim to increase physical activity levels and reduce health inequalities, with a particular focus on those who are currently the least active in our community.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven individual to develop our children and young people programme. In this role, you will:
<ul>
<li>Work with local strategic partners and activity providers to promote and expand opportunities for young people to get active.</li>
<li>Identify gaps in the current offer and develop new sport, physical activity, and active play sessions.</li>
<li>Support and coordinate our network of local coaches and instructors to ensure high-quality, inclusive activities, which reach and engage the young people who will benefit most.</li>
<li>Act as a strategic link between partners, ensuring resources and funding are targeted where they will make the biggest impact.</li>
<li>Break down barriers to participation, helping the least active young people in Hastings and St Leonards to get involved.</li>
</ul>
We’re seeking someone who is passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of young people. A background in sport or physical activity coaching would be ideal, but if your experience is in community development, we can provide the training you need to succeed.

Senior Estates Surveyor
Location: Muriel Matters House, Hastings (hybrid working available)
Salary: £41,771 – £48,226 (SCP 28–33) plus £2,278 benefits allowance (Level 3)

About the role
We’re looking for an experienced Senior Estates Surveyor to help lead the day-to-day management of the Council’s non-operational land and property portfolio. You’ll act as a key source of professional valuation and estate management advice, ensuring our assets are well-managed, compliant and deliver value for money.
Key responsibilities
<ul>
<li>Provide expert advice on valuation and estate management matters to internal and external customers, including Council Members.</li>
<li>Manage Estates Service budgets and non-operational property budgets.</li>
<li>Client-manage external consultants on property matters.</li>
<li>Develop and oversee a community lettings policy; manage new and existing community lettings.</li>
<li>Undertake inspections and valuations for condition, repair, compliance and financial reporting.</li>
<li>Negotiate terms for acquisitions, disposals, lease restructuring, development and management of Council land and property.</li>
<li>Prepare and present reports to Management Team and Council committees, draft clear instructions to Legal Services.</li>
<li>Contribute to development/redevelopment opportunities and special projects; maintain robust records and management information.</li>
<li>Ensure the Council meets its statutory and contractual property management obligations.</li>
<li>Prepare, review and develop the Council’s Asset Management Plan; lead the annual asset valuations for financial reporting.</li>

About you
<ul>
<li>Qualification: Chartered Member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (MRICS) or equivalent.</li>
<li>Experience: Demonstrable post-qualification experience delivering an efficient, cost-effective estates service; strong track record of negotiations (acquisitions, disposals, lettings).</li>
<li>Knowledge: Sound estates management practice; understanding of the role of property within an organisation.</li>
<li>Skills: Excellent communication, negotiation and influencing; strong written skills; good IT skills; flexible, accurate, self-motivated; able to prioritise and work with minimal supervision; a collaborative team player.</li>
<li>Circumstances: Ability to travel throughout the borough. Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle with business insurance (or willingness to obtain).</li>

About the role
We’re looking for a motivated Estates Surveyor to help manage and enhance the Council’s diverse land and property portfolio. You’ll deliver a professional, efficient estates service—handling lettings and landlord/tenant matters, negotiating rent reviews and lease renewals, carrying out valuations and inspections, instructing Legal on transactions, and contributing to our disposals programme. You’ll also respond to property enquiries from residents, tenants, Council Members and colleagues.
Key responsibilities

Country Parks Officer
Permanent
£29,540 - £33,699 per annum, pro rata

Do you have a passion for nature, conservation and community engagement? We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Country Parks Officer to play an integral role in managing and protecting some of Hastings’ most valuable and biodiverse green spaces.
About Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve
Hastings Country Park Nature Reserve is the largest area of publicly owned and managed land in the Borough. It is a designated Local Nature Reserve which includes a nationally designated Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI), internationally designated Special Area of Conservation (SAC), farmland, ancient woodland, and a Country Park.
About the role
As our Country Parks Officer, you will be responsible for delivering high quality site management and maintenance across Hastings Country Nature Reserve and other nature reserves throughout the borough. You will apply specialist knowledge and practical skills to implement and monitor the delivery of countryside stewardship grants at the reserve, and act as the principle on-site point of contact and liaison for members of the public and community groups, advocating and explaining site management priorities.
Working with partners, you will develop and co-ordinate a programme of volunteer and community engagement events and activities.
This role requires high levels of knowledge and expertise on management of nature reserves and habitats. You will need relevant qualifications in countryside management, or experience related to countryside management, ecology and wildlife activities and practical experience of nature reserve management, countryside stewardship and access management.
