We’re looking for a skilled and driven Senior Ecologist to join our growing Natural and Built Environment Team.

The Role
As our Ecologist, you’ll play a key role in delivering nature recovery across a diverse and vibrant borough, You’ll be:
<ul>
<li>Providing expert ecological advice throughout the planning process – from pre-application to condition discharge and monitoring biodiversity net gain.</li>
<li>Ensuring the Council meets its duties under the Environment Act 2021.</li>
<li>Collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders – planners, developers, agents, consultants, environmental groups, and councillors.</li>
<li>Supporting the development of our Biodiversity Strategy and Supplementary Planning Document.</li>
</ul>
This is a career-graded role, offering clear progression opportunities in a supportive and forward-thinking environment.
About You
We’re seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Ecologist who has:
<ul>
<li>A degree or diploma in a relevant ecological or environmental discipline.</li>
<li>Significant experience in ecology, ideally within the planning system.</li>
<li>A practical understanding of ecological protection and enhancement.</li>
<li>A full UK driving licence; you will be traveling throughout the Borough and may be using your own transport.</li>
</ul>

The Role
As our Tree Officer, you’ll lead on all tree-related matters, ensuring the protection and sustainable management of Charnwood’s green assets. You’ll:

<li>Assess trees for protection and Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs)</li>
<li>Handle applications and appeals</li>
<li>Provide expert arboricultural advice to planning officers, enforcement teams, councillors, and the public</li>
<li>Champion tree health and biodiversity across the borough</li>
</ul>
This is a high-impact role where your expertise will directly influence the quality of life and environmental legacy of our communities.

About You
We’re seeking a passionate and knowledgeable arboriculture professional who:
<ul>
<li>Has experience assessing trees for TPOs and navigating relevant legislation</li>
<li>Is a strong communicator and collaborator</li>
<li>Can build trusted relationships with stakeholders and elected members</li>
<li>Holds a degree/diploma in a related field or has substantial experience in tree protection</li>
<li>Is a member of a recognised professional body</li>
<li>Has a full UK driving licence; you will be traveling throughout the Borough and may be using your own transport.</li>
</ul>
