Are you an experienced Environmental Health professional looking to take the next step in your career? This is a fantastic opportunity within Tunbridge Wells Borough Council's Environmental Protection team where you will lead on complex, high-profile cases that make a real difference to public health and the environment. <h4>About the Role</h4>This role is ideal for someone with several years of experience in Environmental Health who is looking to develop a specialism and take on more responsibility. As the lead officer, you will:<ul><li>Investigate and resolve complex nuisance complaints under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and other legislation.</li><li>Lead on issues including: Waste accumulations, bonfires, pest infestations, noise, odour, light, and drainage nuisances, Filthy and verminous premises, private water supplies and contaminated land</li><li>Act as technical lead for contaminated land.</li><li>Respond to planning and licensing consultations</li><li>Undertake inspections </li><li>Represent the council in court and at licensing committees.</li><li>Supervise and support junior officers and trainees, deputising for the team leader when required.</li><li>Participate in out-of-hours enforcement and emergency planning operations.</li></ul><h4>What We’re Looking For</h4><ul><li>Degree (BSc or MSc) in Environmental Health</li><li>Extensive experience in environmental protection</li><li>Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB)</li><li>Proven ability to represent the council in legal and committee settings.</li><li>Membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (MCIEH or MCIEH CEnvH), or commitment to obtain</li></ul>Special Requirements:<ul><li>Full valid driving licence and access to a vehicle</li><li>Willingness to work outside normal office hours</li><li>Physically capable of inspecting a range of premises</li></ul>What we offer<ul><li>Be part of a committed, hard-working team that’s passionate about making a difference.</li><li>Enjoy 26 days annual leave (rising to 29 after 5 years service).</li><li>LGPS membership with 19.7% employer contribution.</li><li>Employee Assistance Programme: The Council has partnered with Health Assured to provide staff with access to EAP (Employee Assistance Programme) to assist in balancing everyday life with the requirement of work and home.</li><li>Free staff parking.</li><li>There is opportunity for hybrid working - This would be discussed in more detail on successful completion of the probation period.</li><li>Personal Development: Invaluable training opportunities for continuing professional development. </li></ul> For an informal discussion, contact Lisa Anderson, Environmental Protection Team Leader on 01622 602762Equal Opportunities Tunbridge Wells – Working for Equality.
