We are seeking a confident, self-starting operative to work in our busy Special Maintenance team. &nbsp;
You’ll be working primarily as a Pest Control Officer responding to requests from members of the public requesting assistance, occasionally working in commercial premises, but also assisting internal council departments such as Housing and Environmental Health.&nbsp;
Key to this role is an engaging, supportive approach to your work as you will often be dealing with distressed individuals, as well as excellent communication skills, as you will need to explain a technical work area clearly and calmly to avoid causing undue alarm or risk.
The role is physically active involving ladders and entering manholes, as well as carrying equipment such as CCTV cameras. The role would also involve pest prevention, including erecting bird scaring devices or netting on buildings, or installing one-way valves in sewers.&nbsp;
The role covers a wide range of species from rats through to bed bugs and could involve poisons, air weapons, insecticides or traps. Risk awareness and high levels of safety around customers and their premises is essential.&nbsp;
On occasion, you may need to support the wider special maintenance team for high profile events such as elections or responding to emergencies and acting as a front line responder. For example, during severe weather events, but this will be infrequent. &nbsp;
A driving licence is essential, and a Basic DBS check will also be a requirement. IT skills will also be an advantage as the service will be moving to a fully digital platform.&nbsp;
All applicants must be fully qualified to the Royal Society For Public Health level 2 award in pest management (or equivalent) across all the main pest control disciplines (Rodents/Avian/Insects). The applicant must also be able to demonstrate relevant experience, ideally in a local authority environment, with experience of working in a maintenance environment being an advantage.

Winchester City Council is looking for a Principal Ecologist &amp; Biodiversity Officer (Maternity Cover) to join the Sustainability and Natural Environment team (SANE), within Winchester City Council.
As part of a small ecology team within SANE, you will lead on the delivery of the Authority’s functions and activities with respect to ecology and biodiversity, through the provision of specialised ecological/biodiversity advice and support, and through identifying and delivering strategic needs.
The post requires someone who has a high level of ecological knowledge and expertise who is responsible for the provision of professional biodiversity expertise in support of a variety of the council’s functions (including Development Management, design advice to the New Homes Team and strategic planning); to protect, maintain and enhance ecological features of quality at International, National and local levels; and to promote quality spaces within Winchester City and the district.
An ability to supervise colleagues, work independently as well as part of a team is essential, as is good organisational skills and an ability to manage your own workload and time. This role will see you come into contact with members of the public, partners, contractors &amp; suppliers, planners and councillors, as well as other sections of the council, so excellent communication skills are a must.
