We are seeking a committed, resilient, and well organised team player to join our friendly team, in delivering a professional and responsive helpdesk service to our customers. Our helpdesk manager and team are a vital and integral part of our operational team who ensure that our large and diverse property portfolio and all related services are compliant, and maintained effectively to ensure building users’ needs are met.
Working within a committed team and alongside a variety of teams and directorates, the role brings together site users, contractors, a dedicated helpdesk function, and various stakeholders to find best value solutions and ensure a continuous improvement mindset is adopted in all daily operations.
As a Premises & Building Services Support Helpdesk Manager, you will lead the helpdesk operation and join a busy team of enthusiastic people who care about our wide range of service users and are passionate about finding creative solutions to a wide range of planned and reactive maintenance issues. The role requires an individual who is passionate about providing excellent customer service, is focused on solutions, and enjoys improving systems and processes.

The role requires someone with a strong background in managing a helpdesk operation, contractor management, and experience of managing building services across a large and varied commercial property portfolio. A thorough knowledge of building services systems and plant, and related maintenance requirements, will enable you to be successful in the role. You will utilise this knowledge and experience alongside excellent communication and management skills to ensure timely solutions in a busy and reactive working environment. These solutions have a direct and visible impact on a wide and diverse range of building users, and you will see firsthand the positive impact this role brings to these users and their changing needs and requirements.
Your sound knowledge of current health and safety legislation relating to work covered by a facilities and building services team will help ensure compliance is achieved across a large and diverse property portfolio. Having significant experience of monitoring and supervising a range of contractors, dealing with planned and reactive jobs, and collaborating with a range of stakeholders to achieve successful and value for money outcomes is vital for this role. The ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision and to manage a busy and reactive helpdesk operation is fundamental for the success of this role and the wider team.
Our property portfolio is both diverse and large and the team are responsible for circa 350 active buildings and circa 1000 passive sites. The portfolio which is geographically spread over Brighton, Hove, and Portslade includes; education, social care, and civic properties; memorials; fountains; and statues. This results in a genuinely interesting and varied portfolio to manage, which the post holder will have a shared responsibility for auditing, monitoring KPI’s, and recommending potential pro-active works to the wider team which involves approximately 20 contractors. The helpdesk team are often the first point of contact for both internal and external customers, so the ability to quickly and effectively manage a wide range of general enquiries is also vital for the successful candidate.

Due to the operational nature of the role, you will be able to visit a variety of our sites across the city and have access to multiple offices despite being predominantly based with the team at Hove Town Hall.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.
