Teacher of Humanities
About the role
Impact North West Schools is a registered Independent special school working with young people aged 11 - 16 who need support to transition back into their mainstream or specialist setting. We offer a variety of programmes depending on the needs of the young person and some, where it is in the child’s best interest, stay with INWS until Year 11. Our dedicated team of staff, work collaboratively to ensure successful outcomes for all our pupils.
Main purpose of Job
We are looking to appoint a Teacher of Humanities who will have a significant impact on the learning of pupils with additional needs. The role will involve working with all years, delivering a variety of high quality lessons across a range of humanities based subjects. The successful candidate will also show a willingness to teach outside of their subject specialism.
The successful candidate will work in a secure and supportive environment that helps pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties overcome their challenges.
The position requires a candidate who can build relationships with children with SEMH difficulties and work in collaboration with colleagues to create an inclusive and supportive environment that is conducive to learning.
Duties and responsibilities
- Design and implement a Humanities curriculum that promotes literacy, creativity, and academic progress for all students
- Ensure the Humanities curriculum is well-planned, sequenced, and relevant to the needs of Impact North West Schools students
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of the Humanities curriculum, making adjustments as necessary to improve student outcomes
- Monitor and assess student progress in Humanities, using data to inform teaching strategies and interventions
- Embed literacy skills across the Humanities curriculum, developing resources as needed
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment, using trauma-informed and attachment-aware approaches
- Set goals that stretch and challenge pupils of all backgrounds and abilities.
- Work collaboratively with pastoral teams to address barriers to learning and promote emotional resilience
- Organise enrichment activities to inspire students and foster a love of learning
- Provide leadership and guidance to the Humanities department, ensuring a cohesive and effective approach to teaching and learning
Requirements
- UK QTS or equivalent.
- Strong subject knowledge and understanding of the Humanities curriculum, including current best practices and research.
- An ability to be flexible in the subjects that are taught.
- Excellent teaching and assessment skills, with the ability to adapt to the needs of SEMH students
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, students, and families
- Data analysis and interpretation skills, to use assessment information to inform teaching and learning
- Commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to share best practises with colleagues
- Ability to foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment, using trauma-informed and attachment-aware approaches
- Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively

Shortlisting

Interview

Candidates at the end of their interview will be reminded of their responsibility to disclose criminal convictions that are subject to DBS check if they have not already done so on the application.

Probation
All new staff will be subject to the INWS probation procedure for a period of six months.
The probation period is to enable the assessment of an employee’s suitability for the job for which they have been employed which includes the monitor and review of the performance of new staff in relation to duties, skills, qualifications and experience outlined in the job description and person specification
This will also include an employee’s suitability to work with children and young people and their commitment to safeguarding and child protection.
