At Barnardo’s, we believe in children. Our purpose is to transform the lives of the UK’s most vulnerable children and our vision is to realise Thomas Barnardo’s dream of a world where no child is turned away from the help that they need.

The Pan London service provides direct work with children and young people that go missing and those who are involved in or at risk of sexual exploitation. Much of our work is with high risk and complex cases.

You will be involved in rolling out a CSE new pilot project TIGER (Trauma-Informed Growth and Empowered Recovery).

The family worker role is focused on supporting parents and carers to strengthen relationships and enable positive, long-term change. You will be required to undertake work with individuals, couples and groups with parents/carers of young people who are involved or at risk of Child Sexual Exploitation.

You will need to have sound knowledge around CSE and the effects on young people and their families. You should also have some experience of working with parents of vulnerable young people who are at risk or have been sexually exploited. The work will involve mentalization and attunement. Therefore, experience in working with children and families affected by trauma is essential and experience of working therapeutically is desirable.

Partnership working and safeguarding are critical to protecting and ensuring positive outcomes for children and young people and so it is important that the family worker has experience of this.

Communication is an essential skill necessary for this work. You will need to be able to communicate with multi agency professionals to ensure appropriate information is shared. The practitioner must have experience in identifying and acting on safeguarding issues and working within the London Child Protection Procedures.

The role is Pan London therefore you must be willing to travel.
