Working at the Electoral Commission
The Electoral Commission is the independent body which oversees elections and regulates political finance in the UK. We work to promote public confidence in the democratic process and to ensure its integrity.
We offer excellent terms and conditions, including flexible working hours and the opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements (dependent on scheme rules).
The Role
We are recruiting for a Senior Adviser to join our Regulatory Support team, which works to help our regulated community – political parties, campaigners, candidates, election agents and volunteers – understand and comply with political finance law.
You will work closely with the Regulation Guidance Manager to maintain, develop and improve our written guidance. You will play a key role in ensuring our guidance, resources and advice enable the regulated community to campaign with confidence at elections across the UK.
You will provide high quality advice on the practical operation of political finance law to our regulatory support advice service, and to other parts of the Commission.
This is an interesting time to join the team as we develop new guidance for elected office holders and prepare for significant changes to the electoral system planned ahead of elections in Scotland and Wales.
Who we are looking for
We are looking for someone who excels at understanding and explaining complex systems. You will be comfortable working with legislation and motivated to build up your knowledge of new and existing political finance laws.
You will have excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to distil complex information into clear and accessible formats, and to tailor how you present information to different audiences. You will have experience drafting high-quality written products, with excellent attention to detail.
You will have a good understanding of the UK political system and what is needed to work in an impartial and politically sensitive environment.
You will be proactive and feel at home working in a fast-paced environment, as part of a collaborative and dynamic team.
