<h4>Job summary</h4><p>We are excited to have appointed our new permanent Deputy Director of Strategic Finance! As they will be working part-time, we are now opening a search for a talented job-share partner to join them on Wednesdays to Fridays. Your creative skills will identify solutions that help embed financial objectives, drive decision making and secure strong outcomes that align DSIT’s strategic objectives. </li><li>Ensure that existing commitments and new proposals are challenged to help optimise value for money, leading engagement with HMT on new areas of work or financial issues. </li><li>Overall financial strategy and management, in both current and future years, to ensure that resources are deployed and managed in a way which best supports delivery of Ministerial priorities and value for money.</li><li>Leading financial planning in the Department and clearly articulating the strategic choices for the Executive Committee and SoS.</li><li>Leading in-year financial management across the Department, including management accounting overseeing the Estimates and OSCAR processes, including preparation of Memoranda for Parliament.</li><li>Working closely with central teams on fiscal events such as Spending Reviews and Budget, leading DSIT’s relationship with HM Treasury.</li><li>Support the Leadership Team and Ministers to ensure funding is spent effectively – driving value, providing advice on managing within control totals and options for any headroom. </li><li>Lead the business planning process for the department, working closely with finance business partners and colleagues across the department.</li><li>As part of the finance senior leadership team, you will help shape the function and continually seek opportunities to drive efficiency and innovation.</li></ul><p><strong>Key Stakeholders:</strong></p><p>Your key stakeholders will include:</p><ul><li><strong>The Secretary of State</strong>,<strong> and her Ministerial Team</strong> – you will work closely with Ministers and their advisers, supporting and influencing medium and long-term financial strategies, and providing day-to-day financial advisory input to underpin departmental priorities.</li><li><strong>The Permanent Secretary and the Executive Committee </strong>- to provide insight and recommendations on Spending Reviews, financial planning, resource allocation, and strategic choices.</li><li><strong>Director General for Corporate Services and Chief Operating Officer</strong> to ensure financial management aligns with wider departmental transformation and operational objectives. </li><li>Leading DSIT’s relationship with <strong>HM Treasury</strong>, engaging on fiscal events such as Spending Reviews and Budgets, and ensuring value for money and compliance with government financial controls.<br></li></ul><h4>Person specification</h4><p>We are looking for a strategic finance leader with excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a passion for on data and translating financial information into a story that stakeholders can engage with. <p>We have 2 exciting opportunities within our Financial Operations Service for a self-motivated <em>Business Support Assistant</em> providing essential support to our practice staff members. </p><p><strong>One role is based at One Avenue Road, Aston, Birmingham, and the other is based at Lifford House, Stirchley, Birmingham. </strong></p><p>The Financial Operations Team process a range of financial transactions, supporting services across Birmingham Childrens Trust. Eg: petty cash payments, ordering goods and services via a variety of methods, making payments to carers and individuals, and dealing with general/complex administrative tasks and queries via phone/email/face to face. </p> <p><strong>We have been rated as ‘Good’ by Ofsted, following a 2023 inspection. </strong>This is a fantastic achievement for Birmingham Children's Trust, with many positive highlights focusing on areas including the quality of staff leadership, partnership working, safeguarding and corporate parenting.</p> <p>This is a hybrid role based in Birmingham so you must reside within a suitable commutable distance around Birmingham and have the correct right-to-work documents to work in the UK.
