GRADUATE TRAINEE ACCOUNTANT
We have an exciting opportunity to join the Finance Team at Waltham Forest. As a Trainee Accountant, you will contribute to the full range of accountancy and finance work within the Council and train to be a qualified CIPFA accountant.
The position is open to recent graduates with a minimum 2:2 degree, 300 UCAS points (new system), plus a minimum B in Mathematics and a minimum C in English at GCSE level. You should be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, and demonstrate basic computing skills (including use of spreadsheet and word processing software).
You will be expected to undertake the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) qualification on a day release basis and will be given full financial support (registration, course and exam fees, etc.) plus revision/exam leave.
Initially based in the Financial Planning team, you will undertake a series of placements across the full breadth of the finance function, including budget preparation, closing of accounts, grant claims, treasury management, internal audit, management accounting, capital, and taxation. Throughout your training you may be asked to work on projects which will be aimed at complementing your academic studies and fulfilling the experience requirements of the CIPFA syllabus.
Our intention is to provide our trainees with a broad experience in all aspects of financial management and the skills and knowledge required to progress a career in local government to the highest level.
