<h4>Job summary</h4>The Chief Inspector of Crown Premises Fire Safety reports to the Fire Director in MHCLG. The post holder is responsible for implementing the legal requirements set out in the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 with respect to the inspection of Crown and public premises in England. The Crown Premises Fire Safety Inspectorate (CPFSI) comprises persons authorised by the Secretary of State who have powers under the 2005 Order to inspect and enforce fire safety in Crown and government premises (over 10,000 buildings including prison sites).<h4>Job description</h4><p>The post holder will provide oversight and strategic leadership to the team of 12 and the budget of £1.12m, and will also be responsible for ensuring that senior stakeholders, such as prison governors, act upon fire safety recommendations made by the inspectors. The post holder will also provide strategic engagement with the National Fire Chiefs’ Council (NFCC) and other bodies conducting similar work to CPFSI, such as the Defence Safety Authority based at the Ministry of Defence. </p><p>​<strong>Key accountabilities</strong></p><p>The responsibilities of this role include:</p><ul><li>Provide leadership for the Crown Premises Fire Safety Inspectorate, setting strategic direction for the team and ensuring that it is has the necessary resourcing, training and structures to discharge its statutory responsibilities. </li><li>On occasions to accompany team members on Inspections</li><li>Act as the strategic lead for CPFSI in its interactions relating to inspection and enforcement, for example with prison governors and senior managers in HM Prisons and Probation, as part of the wider representational role with senior stakeholders.</li><li>Advise Ministers and senior officials in MHCLG and other relevant Government Departments and their agencies of key emerging issues and recommendations from the programme of inspection of fire safety in Crown and public premises. Develop synergies with other relevant inspectorates and enforcing authorities (e.g. HMI Prisons and the Defence Safety Authority). </li><li>Provide general advice and input as required to Ministers and officials in MHCLG on fire policy, operational and response issues where that doesn’t cut across the independent role of the Inspectorate. </li><li>Take an active role in the overall leadership and governance of the Fire Directorate as a member of the Senior Leadership Team. </li></ul><h4>Person specification</h4><p>The successful candidate will be first and foremost an empowering, effective and skilful leader, capable of adapting their style between leading a small, highly-skilled and motivated team and providing leadership across a very broad Crown premises fire safety landscape. <h4>Job summary</h4>Rail safety, strategy &amp; policy team delivers a range of policy, regulatory and corporate functions as well as providing strategic direction to RSD’s work through risk ranking and prioritisation. <h4>Job description</h4>We are recruiting a fixed term <strong>Operational Development Manager (ODM) </strong>to join the Railway Safety Directorate (RSD). As part of our Capability Team, reporting directly to the Capability Programme Lead, you will work alongside other ODMs and other RSD colleagues to deliver key aspects of our L&amp;D strategy for RSD. You will play a significant role in the development and delivery of our NEBOSH-accredited regulatory training programme (RTP) and technical training programme (TTP) for new trainee inspectors, specialist inspectors and inspector assistants. The training programmes can take 36 months to complete, and we may have multiple cohorts at different stages of the programmes. In this role, you will support safe movement around the academy, oversee access and visitor protocols, manage traffic flow at peak times, and respond confidently and appropriately to incidents as they arise.</p><p>The role also includes daily minibus driving duties, transporting students safely to and from school, alternative provision, trips and activities (training and assessment provided where required).</p><p>Key responsibilities include:</p><ul><li>Ensuring safe movement of students during arrival, departure and lesson changeovers</li><li>Managing vehicle access and pedestrian safety, including the turning circle and crossings</li><li>Maintaining site security, including gates, perimeters and visitor supervision</li><li>Providing a visible presence to support behaviour, wellbeing and safeguarding</li><li>Administering First Aid when required (training provided) and recording incidents</li><li>Driving the school minibus and ensuring vehicles are clean, safe and roadworthy</li><li>Working closely with staff to respond to emergencies and safety concerns</li></ul><p><strong>About Lift Clacton</strong></p><p>Lift Clacton is a rapidly improving school at the heart of the community and recently achieved 'Good' (June 2024).
