An exciting opportunity has arisen for two motivated and enthusiastic Health & Wellbeing Nurses to join our new Young Peoples Health and Wellbeing Service in Lewisham.
The Lewisham YPHWB Service is a new and highly innovative service commissioned by the London Borough of Lewisham and Lewisham Clinical Commissioning Group to deliver a range of universal, targeted and specialist health and wellbeing interventions to young people aged 10-19 (up to 25 years with SEND) who are resident , GP registered or attending school in the Borough of Lewisham. The evidenced based interventions delivered will focus on three strands of care specific to young people’s risk taking behaviours; risky sexual behaviour, substance misuse and poor mental health and emotional health. The service will provide education and prevention, early help and specialist support using a blend of face to face and on line digital interventions (secure messaging service, guided self help, online counselling and themed live chat) to maximise access and choice.
The service aim is to create an integrated and easily accessible service that enables young people to manage their own health and wellbeing either independently or with support to reduce the likelihood of escalation to specialist services at a later date.
As a Health & Wellbeing Nurse your role will be to deliver outreach sexual health support via clinic in a box, which will include pregnancy and STI testing, chlamydia treatment, and effective provision of both barrier and oral contraception including emergency hormonal contraception. You will carry a caseload of young people who require additional support to manage their sexual and mental health, providing psychosocial brief interventions to support healthy relationships, safe sex and positive emotional health. You will also support young people with complex substance misuse needs including those engaging with the adult substance misuse service for opiate substitute prescribing.
You will provide professional consultation across the wider children and families network across Lewisham including workforce development training for health promotion.
You will work across the Borough of Lewisham from the clinical base in Catford and outreach at various co-locations and peripatetic sites, and working closely with partner agencies ensure equitable service delivery to all young people, in particular those from vulnerable groups.
You will be a qualified nurse with a specialism in either sexual or mental health, have experience of prescribing under PGD’s and be willing to participate in any additional training. You be passionate about improving the health and wellbeing of children and young people and supporting communities to improve health outcomes for families. You will be skilled in engaging professionals via training, coaching and mentoring and be able to challenge resistance. You will also have experience of working directly with children and young people with additional needs, using evidence based practice to facilitate sustainable behavioural change.
This post requires evening and some weekend work.
These posts are subject to Safer Recruitment and will be subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.
You must be able to work agilely as there will be a requirement to travel around the borough.
You will share Compass’ commitment to safeguarding children, young people and vulnerable adults.
We offer a range of benefits for our employees including:
- Generous annual leave of 27 Days p.a, plus Public Bank Holidays
- Typical working hours of Monday – Friday
- Childcare voucher scheme
- Specsavers Eye test for VDU users
- Generous pension scheme
- Employee assistance programme and OH service
- Excellent learning & development opportunities
Closing date for completed applications: 22 September 2017
Interview dates: To be confirmed
Venue for the interview is: The Hub, 38-39 Winslade Way, Catford, Lewisham
