Specialist Nurse / Practitioner Night Response

Specialist Nurse / Practitioner Night Response

locationW End Ln, Esher KT10 8NA, UK

Healthcare
Full time
£41,000 - £50,000 per year

Please note that this vacancy is not part of Surrey County Council, we are advertising this on behalf of a partnership organisation.

The salary range for this role is £41,000 to £50,000 per annum based on a 38 hour working week.

We are looking for an experienced and versatile Specialist Nurse to join our Night Response Team, bringing strong interpersonal, communication and telephone triage skills.

About the Organisation

Princess Alice Hospice is a charity supporting people in life, death and grief. We’re dedicated to working closely with individuals, communities and organisations in the London Boroughs of Kingston and Richmond and large parts of Surrey, to ensure more people receive the support they need.

Here at Princess Alice, you’ll have the opportunity to make a satisfying, rewarding difference to the lives of our patients, their families and friends, and be supported every step of the way. We’re small enough for you to see the difference you make every day, and big enough to offer training, development and the support you need to grow in your role.

About the Role

Working as part of a small team of two each night - usually one Registered Nurse and a Senior Healthcare Assistant - you will be based in an office in the Hospice In-Patient Unit. The team receives calls and provides information, support and advice to patients, families and other healthcare professionals, alongside visiting patients as required throughout the night.

This is a role that offers a high level of autonomy and the opportunity to use your clinical judgement in complex and often changing situations. You will assess, plan and deliver care to patients with palliative and end-of-life needs, providing both hands-on support during visits and clinical advice via telephone. You will also play an important role in supporting patients and those close to them during challenging times, responding with sensitivity, confidence and compassion.

Excellent communication and telephone triage skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently within a community setting. The role also involves contributing to the ongoing development and evaluation of the service. Experience in caring for patients who are terminally ill is essential; as is a strong understanding of more generalist community-based nursing care.

About You

Experience in caring for patients who are terminally ill is essential, alongside a strong understanding of community-based care and the confidence to work autonomously. An interest in contributing to service development and audit activity would also be valuable.

A motivated and flexible approach is key, with the ability to adapt to new ways of working and support a diverse patient group. A compassionate, person-centred approach is essential, with the ability to assess and respond to the needs of patients, families and carers with sensitivity and professionalism.

You should demonstrate proven ability in caring for terminally ill patients.

A relevant degree or diploma is desirable.

Experience in palliative care or oncology is essential.

If you are enthusiastic, personable and share our values, with a genuine desire to make a meaningful difference in the last years of someone’s life, we would love to hear from you!

Additional Information

A full driving licence with a maximum of 6 points is required, as the role requires travelling to patients homes using a hospice vehicle (automatic).

The salary for this role is complemented with a premium for unsocial hours, including night and weekend working, paid monthly in arrears.
