Role PurposeTower Hamlets is a culturally diverse borough in which an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Green Team Operative As a Green Team operative for the Boroughs Green Team you will take a lead role on the horticultural maintenance of Parks and Open Spaces throughout Tower Hamlets You will be responsible for a range of duties including Grass cutting flower bed maintenance and bowling green maintenance The Council is committed to improving the quality of its green spaces and the Green Team Operative will have a key role in supporting this aim.Key ResponsibilitiesThe key responsibilities for the role of Green Team operative include:<ul> <li>Carry out a range of horticultural maintenance activities, in accordance with best horticultural practices, so that designated sites are prepared and maintained to a high standard of horticulture and overall appearance</li> <li>Support the implementation of improvements to designated sites, and the associated preparation for local and national award schemes.</li> <li>Undertake basic maintenance of tools, equipment and machinery, identifying and reporting defects.</li> <li>Deal with the public in a courteous and efficient manner, answering questions relating to the parks, noting and reporting any complaints to the Operations Leader.</li> <li>Participate in the delivery of horticultural- and ecological-based community events and activities such as tree planting, bulb planting and clean-up days.</li> <li>The Council has a strong commitment to achieving equality and opportunity in both services to the community and in the employment of people, and expects all employees to understand and promote its policies in their own work, including undertaking any training where necessary.</li></ul>RequirementsKey requirements for the role of Green Team operative include Knowledge of issues relating to parks and open spaces. An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Hadlow College team within our Land-based Curriculum department as a Science Lab &amp; Greenhouse Officer. We are seeking a suitably qualified, experienced, and enthusiastic individual to take on this dynamic and varied role.
The successful candidate will be responsible for the daily management of our science laboratories and commercial greenhouse The Thanet Earth Centre of Excellence, ensuring compliance with all Health &amp; Safety protocols. You will provide vital technical support and contribute to the practical delivery of science content across our land-based curriculum areas, which include Agriculture, Animal Management, Equine, Fisheries, Horticulture, and Floristry.
The Thanet Earth Centre of Excellence is the Uks only centre of excellence for greenhouse growing and is supported and sponsored by Thanet Earth and other key organisations in the fresh produce sector. As a result the successful candidate will be working in a unique and innovative setting.
This role also includes supervising a range of innovative student and staff-led projects, offering a unique chance to engage with hands-on learning and research initiatives.
A key element of the role involves managing operations in our state-of-the-art Venlo greenhouse – The Thanet Earth Centre of Excellence, where you will act as the primary grower for our hydroponic crops. In collaboration with colleagues at Hadlow College and our industry partner, Thanet Earth, you will be responsible for:

<li>Monitoring crop and environmental systems (PRIVA)</li>
<li>Carrying out crop work from planting through to harvest</li>
<li>Preparing the greenhouse for new planting cycles and for visits from industry partners and educational groups</li>
<li>Running variety trials</li>
<li>Liaising with relevant industry organisations to ensure the smooth running of The Centre of Excellence</li>
</ul>
