Hastings Borough Council is recruiting a driven and proactive Senior Income Recovery Officer to join our Housing Options Team.
This is a brand new role, created to strengthen our approach to income recovery and tenancy sustainment. We are looking for an experienced leader to support residents, reduce arrears, and help people sustain their homes.
As the Senior Income Recovery Officer, you’ll manage the day-to-day operation of our income recovery service. You’ll lead a dedicated team to maximise rent and service charge collection across our housing stock, including council-owned, leased, and private nightly paid accommodation. You’ll also oversee the recovery of other housing-related debts such as loans for securing private rented housing and removal/storage costs.
This role combines leadership with hands-on expertise. You’ll develop and implement strategies, train and support staff to handle complex cases, and build strong partnerships with internal teams and external agencies including the DWP, debt services, and housing advocacy organisations. Your focus will be on delivering excellent customer service while ensuring compliance with legislation, policies, and procedures.
You’ll need significant experience in housing income recovery, proven supervisory skills, and a strong understanding of housing law and welfare benefits. Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is term-time only. For part time applicants, where your working week is less than the council’s basic 37 hour week, contracted overtime rated pay will not form part of your working hours. This is because overtime rated pay is payable for hours worked in excess of the council’s basic 37 hour week. Your starting salary will be pro rata based on the basic annual salary elements of pay between £39,862 &amp; £42,839.
