Chelmsford City Council’s Strategic Housing Service are recruiting Homeless Officer to join our busy Homeless Team, working with people to prevent homelessness and make decisions as to the Council’s duties under the homelessness legislation.
This is a challenging role but one that is also very rewarding, with the knowledge that you are working&nbsp;with others to make a real difference to help those in difficult situations.
The successful applicant will have the necessary skills to apply a customer-focused, proactive problem-solving approach in order to successfully work with people experiencing homelessness and those with complex needs. Effective decision-making skills, case management experience and the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines are essential criteria of the role.
The base for working is the Council’s Civic Centre offices, with the option to work from home.
This role is a 18 month fixed term / Internal Secondment position working 37 hours per week

Homeless Officer

Chelmsford City Council is looking for an enthusiastic individual to join our Housing Standards Team. The role involves handling housing complaints, licensing and inspection of Houses in Multiple Occupation, which includes the assessment of conditions and property management against minimum legal standards. This is an exciting time to get involved with this area of work with the long-awaited Renters Rights Act being introduced, which will see significant changes in how the private rented sector is regulated.
The successful applicant will develop a detailed understanding of the various financial support associated with tackling cold homes and fuel poverty and become our key officer in helping local residents access relevant funding as well as supporting the day to day enforcement work of the team and undertaking a range of work relating to empty properties in the District.
The post holder will have an excellent eye for detail, a logical problem-solving approach and the ability to provide the highest standards of customer service and strong communication and organisational skills to manage a diverse and demanding workload. Applicants should be willing to learn to help develop a sound knowledge of housing legislation with full support from the team.
A full driving licence is required for this post and the nature of the work means that you will need to undertake some activities outside normal office hours.
