The Council is in the process of changing its operating model to put the customer at the centre of everything we do. Over the next two years, the Customer First Initiative will involve the transformation of Council services, underpinned by significant investment in technology. It will ensure that our residents can access services easily and conveniently, that wherever possible their queries are resolved at the first point of contact and that our internal processes are even more efficient and cost effective, generating substantial savings.
In addition to making savings, the Council is seeking to develop new income streams through commercial activity, including through Council-owned companies set up to invest in property and develop sites. Making savings and generating income will enable the Council to continue to thrive and provide excellent services in an environment of declining resources. The Council also has an ambitious regeneration programme and wants to continue to deliver non-statutory services that it provides in partnership to make a real difference to the prosperity, health and wellbeing of its residents and businesses.
We therefore require a finance team which is keen, dynamic, proud and professional in ensuring the Council is able to meet these demands. We require you to lead and manage it well at an exciting and challenging time.
This role is based at our offices in Oxted and as Lead Financial Specialist you will be responsible for supporting the Chief Operating Officer in the effective financial management of the Council and advising the Corporate Management Team. You will be the principal advisor on financial and resource matters and the Chief Finance Officer under Section 151 of the Local Government Act.
Your role will include working closely with Members, Corporate Management Team, (CMT) Service Managers and other staff members. You will be responsible for the overall management of financial services and supporting the Council in developing its income generating opportunities including through Council owned companies.
