Brighton & Hove City Libraries are looking to recruit four Library Officers to the following positions: Patcham* and Jubilee Library (35.5hrs per week), Saltdean* and Jubilee Library (35.5hrs per week), Jubilee Library and branch* Libraries (37 hours per week) and Jubilee, Hove and branch* libraries (35 hours per week).
*Please be aware Library Officer positions at Patcham, Saltdean and our other branch libraries entail lone working. Relevant training will be given.
Main advert detail
We are looking for outgoing and enthusiastic people who enjoy working with the public, to provide a welcoming and professional library service, helping library users find books and information and supporting public use of computers. Libraries are increasingly helping people to use the internet to access services, find information and develop their digital skills and confidence. Library Officer duties also include encouraging and supporting self-service use, issuing, returning and shelving library materials, dealing with enquiries and enabling events and activities.
As a Library Officer, you will be expected to work in a number of libraries, including working alone in community library locations. You will be able to work with library users of all ages and backgrounds, and to develop positive relationships with local schools, community organisations and groups, as well as other council staff, to help develop public libraries as local community hubs.
You will have good communication, interpersonal and IT skills, and be willing to learn new skills. It is helpful to have good general and local knowledge, and be prepared to increase your knowledge of public libraries and council services.
This post requires flexibility, the ability to work well under pressure, and a strong commitment to customer service. You must be able to act on your own initiative and work well as part of a team. You will be expected to support volunteers helping out in various roles.
Full training will be given. Interviews W/C 2nd October 2017.
