How Caretakers make a difference in our schools...
With responsibility for the care, security, general maintenance and operational effectiveness in our schools, our caretakers have a very important role undertaking a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities from being key holders, organising contractors to carry out repairs, storage of cleaning equipment, ventilation management, grounds maintenance and much more!
To carry out this important work our Caretakers need to demonstrate a good practical working practice of the cleaning sector, have basic DIY skills and be able to work with safe working practices utilising their knowledge of health and safety procedures and hazards; and because our caretakers work with a wide range of people inside and outside the school good communication skills and the ability to handle situations sensitively is a must. The Supported Living Service enables and supports adults with learning disabilities and complex needs in their own homes. Working with person centred support plans and risk assessments our Supported Living Workers provide direct personal care using safer people handling equipment where assessed. The role can include supporting service users to manage their challenging behaviour, whilst always maintaining and promoting their independence. We adopt a multi-agency approach to support positive behaviour management, in the safest, ethical, and most appropriate way possible for those who may experience issues managing complex behaviour. Shift Patterns: Shifts patterns can include early shifts from 7.30am or late shifts up to 11pm, followed by a sleep in and/or an early shift the following day. Shifts can include sleep in duties, waking nights, weekends and bank holidays and shift patterns can change to meet the needs of the Service Users. There may be occasions to work additional hours to support the service whilst the team are on training, holidays, and sickness.
Examples of shift patterns are 7.30am - 3.00pm, 7.30am -10am and 2.30p,m -10pm. Shift patterns / rota's can include a sleep in shift, examples of times are 10pm to 8 am, or waking night of 10pm to 8 am.
Travel: Our Service Users live across several tenancies in the borough and rely on the flexibility and reliability of our teams to travel across the borough of St Helensto provide the care they need. A drivers licence is advantageous but is not essential.

Our Catering Service provides more than 7,000 meals a day to primary schools across the borough, with high quality nutritious menus. With bespoke and exciting menus our teams are dedicated to providing high quality meals to young persons across the borough, and we are uniquely positioned to be able to give schools and pupils a high level of service providing in person expertise with our locally based, qualified Kitchen teams.
Our Skilled Primary School Cooks all have an incredibly important role leading the day-to-day management of the school kitchen, systems and kitchen team, planning preparing, cooking and serving meals to the highest possible standard. Hastings Borough Council is looking for a dynamic and experienced Property Services Manager to lead the strategic and operational management of its residential housing stock.
About the Role
The Council has made a bold commitment to expanding its housing portfolio and delivering new council homes. As Property Services Manager, you will oversee the management, maintenance and development of our owned and leased residential properties, ensuring they are safe, efficient, well-maintained and genuinely meet the needs of our community.
You’ll lead the Property Services Team, including Housing Management, Income Recovery and Operational staff, to deliver a customer-focused service that meets legal requirements and drives up housing standards. You will also be instrumental in delivering our decarbonisation plan, shaping our Housing Asset Management Strategy, and ensuring robust health and safety compliance.
About You
We’re looking for an experienced housing professional who can lead confidently and collaborate effectively. You’ll be proactive, strategic and able to deliver at pace. You’ll bring:

<li>Significant experience in property and tenancy management, ideally in a local authority or registered provider setting</li>
<li>Strong knowledge of housing asset management, HHSRS, decent homes standards and contract procurement</li>

<li>The ability to lead and motivate staff, prioritise under pressure and work collaboratively across services and with external partners</li>

We are a dedicated and fast paced team working across three Family Hubs and a Youth Hub. We work closely with schools, Children's Social Care, Health Services and the Third Sector, to contribute to the best possible outcomes for children, young people and their families.
Our work is fast-paced, varied, and sometimes challenging, but always meaningful. You will be a trusted part of the team, playing a key role in shaping how we deliver our services.
