Environmental Health Officer – Grade 9

Location: Civic Centre, Wyre (Regular travel throughout the Borough required)

This is more than just an enforcement role; it’s an opportunity to use your expertise to resolve complex statutory nuisance issues, regulate Environmental Permitting, and shape local planning, directly improving the quality of life for our 110,000+ residents.
What You'll Be Doing: The Impact
We’re looking for a proactive officer to manage a varied and challenging caseload. You will be empowered to take ownership of complex environmental issues, supported by a dedicated and collaborative team.
<ul>
<li>Frontline Investigations: Lead on service complaints and scheduled inspections related to noise, drainage, contaminated land, and statutory nuisance.</li>
<li>Permitting &amp; Planning: Process applications/variations for Environmental Permitting and provide expert consultation responses on planning and licensing submissions.</li>
<li>Enforcement &amp; Justice: Draft and serve formal notices, prepare comprehensive legal case files, and represent the council in legal proceedings where necessary.</li>
<li>Community Advisor: Act as a trusted source of advice, interpreting complex legislation for the public and local businesses, and collaborating with external agencies.</li>
<li>Strategic Input: Contribute to corporate projects within the Council, ensuring the Environmental Protection &amp; Community Safety Team meets its key service objectives.</li>

What We're Looking For (Your Skills &amp; Qualifications)
You must meet the essential criteria below. We highly value initiative, a flexible approach, and a commitment to our Customer Focused values.
Essential:
<ul>
<li>A Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health.</li>
<li>EHORB Registered.</li>
<li>Detailed and comprehensive knowledge of Environmental Protection and associated legislation.</li>
<li>Demonstrated ability to write clear, concise reports and use your initiative to work effectively without constant supervision.</li>
<li>A full UK Driving Licence and ownership of an acceptable means of mobility throughout the Borough.</li>
</ul>
Desirable: (Helpful, but not essential):
<ul>
<li>Experience across all aspects of Environmental Protection.</li>
<li>A Noise Diploma or similar qualification.</li>
<li>Experience in inspecting and regulating installations under the Environmental Permitting Regulations.</li>

CORPORATE SYSTEMS ASSISTANT

Are you detail-orientated with an interest in technology and process improvement? Join our Corporate Systems team and play a key role in supporting the council’s digital transformation.
We’re looking for a self-motivated Corporate Systems Assistant to help maintain and develop our corporate systems, ensuring they run smoothly and efficiently. You’ll play a key role in maintaining operations through consistent daily, weekly and monthly processes. Your attention to detail will ensure accuracy and reliability in essential workflows and provide opportunities to streamline processes and suggest improvements.
This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on projects that improve operational efficiency compliance and enable better customer experiences. If you enjoy problem-solving, learning new systems and working collaboratively, we’d love to hear from you.
Key Responsibilities:

<li>To manage the administrative processes associated with Council systems.</li>
<li>Regularly review and update existing processes.</li>
<li>Support system users across the council, including public facing systems, and provide training when necessary.</li>

Skills and Experience:

TRANSFORMATION OFFICER

As a Transformation Officer, you’ll play a vital role in delivering Wyre Council’s ambitious Transformation Programme and support with preparatory work for potential Local Government Reorganisation. You’ll provide expert project management advice and support, helping us achieve the goals set out in our Council Plan.

The role involves:
