About the role

You will be responsible for the successful delivery of the Council’s external messaging, proactive and reactive media relations, promoting campaigns and public affairs work. You will provide strategic advice to senior managers and elected members and form strong relationships with media and external stakeholders. You be part of an on call our of hours press office.

We are looking for an experienced Media and External Relations Officer to join our team. You will deliver a 24/7 digital media cycle and be responsible for providing strategic advice to senior managers and elected members, and for forming strong relationships with the media and public affairs stakeholders. You will build relationships with key journalists and opinion formers, and be adept at using and monitoring all forms of media including print, online and social media.

About you
You will be educated to degree level or have the equivalent relevant work experience. You will have a strong track record in media relations, a wide range of media experience and knowledge of channels, and of measuring impact and evaluation. You will be experienced providing strategic media advice to board level, senior officers and elected members to achieve desired outcomes. You will have experience in dealing with crisis communications and emergency planning skills.
