Islington’s Depots & Special Projects Team is looking to recruit an experienced engineer to carry out mechanical and electrical repairs and planned preventative maintenance at sites across the borough, and beyond. The DSP team provides project management services in relation to construction and refurbishment projects undertaken by the council, as well as looking after the day-to-day maintenance of many of the borough’s depots, car parks and office-based environments. Although this role will be based primarily at Islington’s Waste Recycling Centre in Cottage Road – one of only two indoor waste transfer stations in the world, and home to the council’s primary vehicle depot and workshop, as well as an office complex and refuelling station – the successful candidate will provide mobile support to various depots and external sites within the remit of the DSP team. As working in such a varied environment presents a range of challenging targets to be met, the successful candidate will need to have experience in a similar role, and will be able to demonstrate the ability to balance a heavy workload while working alone, meeting agreed targets on time and efficiently. Likewise, the successful candidate must be capable of working within a team to achieve department targets. The successful candidate will also be required to provide out-of-hours on-call support in case of emergency on a rota basis – this will be compensated by an additional on-call allowance as part of the salary package for this role. In addition to possessing the aforementioned experience, the successful candidate will be committed, flexible and ICT-literate, as the role will involve the issue and logging of preventative and reactive maintenance via computer systems connected to a handheld device. A full, clean driving licence (category B or higher) is also essential. The role will involve the operation of plant equipment (forklifts, scissor lifts and MEWPs etc.), for which training will be provided if necessary. Working for the DSP team presents a great opportunity to develop an engineering career: the team is committed to personal and professional development, and extensive training will be offered as part of this role. If you are motivated, goal-orientated and able to demonstrate a practical approach to problem solving, then we would like to hear from you. Closing date: Sunday 30 July 2017 at 23:59 Interview and test date: To be confirmed For more information, or if you have any questions, please contact Adrian Hilton on 0207 527 8124, or Willem Lewis on 0207 527 3539.
