Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is a highly performing local authority looking for an experienced Parking Manager to carry out all aspects of the Council’s parking activities. You will be formulating and directing strategies relating to both on and off street parking, traffic management and enforcement.

Tunbridge Wells is a busy town with an ambitious range of projects, many of which have implications for parking and traffic management. The Borough is 128 square miles in area and has a population of around 120,000 people, with approximately half living in Tunbridge Wells itself. A number of other smaller towns are spread throughout the district which is predominantly rural in nature, two of which have parking facilities and activity managed by the council.

To be successful in this role you will need to be qualified to degree level and have at least 5 years’ experience in leading an operational parking enforcement service. You will manage over £7m of income for the council, necessitating excellent commercial skills, with sound analytical and decision making experience. You will lead a team of 34, so must have a passion for motivating and developing people to help them reach their full potential.

Your role will involve a substantial amount of liaison with local residents and businesses, in particular those related to the retail sector, which form an important part of the local economy. You will need to understand the particular issues arising out of a historic town intersected by two major routes and having a main line railway station in the central area.

You will need to be aware of all current related legislation and be proficient in the writing of reports for committee and board meetings, at which you will be expected to attend and present items. You will therefore need excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical information in simple terms. These meetings will necessitate some evening working.
