Tunbridge Wells Borough Council is looking for a well organised, practical and enthusiastic Planning Environmental Officer to join the Planning Policy Team on a fixed term contract (up to 12 months).
We are preparing a new Local Plan for the Borough, having recently finished carrying out an Issues and Options consultation. The goal of the Plan is to seek to deliver high quality development in line with the Borough’s five year plan which is focused on attracting the right investment and infrastructure to improve quality of life for the Borough’s residents. The Planning Environmental Officer’s role in this process is to advise on sustainability matters and prepare a Sustainability Appraisal in line with relevant legislation.
The Planning Environmental Officer enjoys a varied work programme which also overlaps with that of the development management and the corporate environmental/sustainability teams.
The ideal candidate will have some experience in both environmental and planning or EIA work. You will have up-to-date knowledge of the plan-making system and be able to demonstrate your experience in dealing with a broad range of planning and environmental issues. You will need to have an interest in climate change and renewable energy initiatives and their application in a planning context and, in particular, be familiar with the use of Sustainability Appraisal.
