As Planning Manager, you will be a role model and a leading advocate for excellence in Planning within policy, projects, and heritage, whilst being part of the department’s ongoing journey of improvement. We will look to you to lead and manage across service areas such as, development plans, major projects and design; and preparing planning guidance and advice, conservation areas/listed buildings and European projects, with a core focus on our policy work. You’ll work closely with a host of council teams and adjacent planning authorities in the Greater Brighton area, to make sure we deliver on our priorities and support outcomes that benefit the city. You will be integral in helping achieve our city’s future ambitions, whilst protecting the City’s rich built heritage.

Widely respected for your knowledge and experience, you’ll be our leading technical authority in your area. You’ll provide compelling advice on major corporate decisions and policy, and implement a programme of work that ensures we have an up-to-date planning framework which reflects national policy and regional strategies. Along the way, you’ll forge links with neighbouring local planning authorities. Crucially, you’ll also lead our negotiations with central government and external agencies.

To be equal to the challenge, you’ll need in-depth knowledge of national, strategic and local planning policy and land use issues. You will bring to the role a proven record of achievement in developing and implementing high profile planning-related and corporate projects. You have a demonstrable flair for leading teams, presenting complex, politically sensitive issues to diverse audiences, and working with the community to secure positive results. It is your talent for creative and strategic thinking that really sets you apart.
