What will you be doing?We are looking for an ambitious, organised and highly motivated Planner who is looking for a new challenge in Kent, shaping and influencing development in the County. Principal Planning Officer – Development ManagementThis post in the Planning Applications Group, will focus on County Planning matters relating to mineral and waste development and will support capacity in relation to applications for the County Council’s own development applications for community development. We are looking for an experienced Officer as you will deal with some of our most complex development planning matters. You will present reports to Members and attend Committee for applications, submissions, and planning matters that you and others in the Planning Applications Group have dealt with. You will also supervise, train and coach staff, review and sign off work carried out by others within the Group. You will have experience of dealing with a wide range of complex major development, EIA and appropriate assessment developments. You will also have experience as an expert witness for planning inquiries. You’ll be able to respond to challenge and have political awareness within the development management role.You will have a thorough understanding of the responsibilities of the County Council in the development management process and the contribution to sustainable development, and of the current and emerging planning legislation, policy and guidance and the implications for working practice.This post require a relevant degree (or equivalent), as detailed in the person specification. We are seeking a proactive and organised Planning Administration Assistant to support our Validation team in delivering high-quality services that support the wider planning department by registering and assessing planning applications. This is a key administrative role that ensures the smooth running of day-to-day operations, including case management, data entry and customer service.
What You’ll Be Doing

<li>Provide administrative support to the Validation Team.</li>
<li>Maintain accurate records and databases.</li>
<li>Monitor mailboxes</li>
<li>Setting up planning applications</li>
<li>Reconciling planning payments.</li>
<li>Respond to public enquiries via, email, phone, in person, offering excellent customer service.</li>
<li>Liaise with internal departments and members of the public to support service delivery.</li>
</ul>
What You’ll Bring to the Role

<li>Previous experience in an administrative role, ideally within a local authority or regulatory environment.</li>
<li>Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.</li>
<li>Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.</li>

You’ll ensure that the processing of all applications for Planning runs smoothly, and you’ll be responsible for liaising with customers about their applications, providing advice and guidance, so experience in a customer facing role is ideal.
You’ll bring your excellent attention to detail and an organised approach to ensure that applications are accurate, and they follow the correct procedures.
Knowledge of Planning services is desirable; however, full training will be given.
This role will be based at our Council Offices, Argyle Road, Sevenoaks Kent TN13 1HG. We currently operate a hybrid working model for the majority of our roles where your working time will be divided between the office (2 days) and home working (3 days).

Planning Validation Assistant

Role PurposeThe purpose of this role is to support the Manager and team in ensuring the continuous improvement of the Plan Making Team in its aim to create a positive policy framework to manage and shape growth in the borough. This includes leading on and contributing to the review, adoption, embedding and monitoring of the Council’s Local Plan and other planning policy documents, including supplementary planning guidance, Article 4 directions, and neighbourhood planning, annual monitoring report and five year housing supply; while providing quality advice on planning policy matters to internal and external stakeholders.Key ResponsibilitiesKey responsibilities for this role include the review, implementation and monitoring of a Local Plan including supporting internal colleagues and external stakeholders in its implementation, as well as positively influencing and responding to changes in the planning system on behalf of the Council. You will directly report to and support the Plan Making Manager and oversee officers on a wide range of plan making projects, as well as independently project managing and/or holding key responsibilities on high profile plan making projects and initiatives, which will achieve positive benefits for the borough’s communities.
