As a Principal Planning Officer in our busy Policy, Projects and Heritage Team, you will be widely recognised for your expert knowledge and insight. You’ll prepare key planning documents, advise a host of stakeholders and contribute to major projects and regeneration in the city. We will look to you to commission technical studies and provide compelling advice on all kinds of planning policy issues. Enjoying a broad remit, you’ll always have a new challenge to get stuck into - from helping to prepare the city’s City Plan Part Two (Development Management and Site Allocations), working with neighbouring local authorities in the Greater Brighton area through to supporting our Development Management planners with advice, appeals and inquiries.

To be equal to the challenge, you’ll need to demonstrate technical knowledge of planning at a range of spatial planning scales and have a relevant specialist qualification or membership. Significant planning experience with a focus on policy work is essential. A background in planning for housing issues would be welcomed. A skilled problem solver, you'll have a proven ability to think in innovative ways and ensure even the tightest deadlines are met. Crucially, you’ll bring to the post technical expertise and demonstrable communication and relationship building skills.
