Epsom & Ewell Borough Council is looking for refuse and recycling loaders to work in its Waste Services operation.

Each week, the Council collects refuse and recycling from residents’ homes, and from businesses around the Borough. We do this using a variety of bins, bags and boxes which are loaded onto our refuse and recycling vehicles. More information can be found at

Refuse and recycling loaders need to be fit, hard-working, flexible and positive. Collection routes service up to 2,000 properties each day. The role involves working outside in all weathers and working closely with a small team to complete the round each day.

There is a significant focus on health and safety, handling various containers, working on the highway and working around vehicles. You will be expected to protect yourself, your colleagues and members of the public while working. Personal protective equipment and uniform are provided.

A positive customer service attitude is vital. This is the only Council service that impacts every single household, every single week.

The role involves working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, including bank holiday Mondays. The service does not operate on Christmas Day, Boxing Day or New Year’s Day. Routes typically start collections at 6.30am. Applicants must be able to be at work in time for the start of collections every day.

This role does not involve driving. But there is opportunity for progression through Trainee Driver and Driver roles. A pension scheme is available but membership is not compulsory.

For further details or an informal discussion please contact Wayne Corby, Waste Services Supervisor, or Penny Atkins, Waste Services Team Leader, on 01372 732 000.
