Rochford District Council is a mix of urban and rural landscapes, with excellent road and public transport connections to London as well as being the home of London Southend Airport, where there are plans for growth as well as delivery of a new high-tech business park. Being a mix of urban and rural, there is a wide range of applications providing the opportunity for a varied caseload for officers, ranging from large scale residential to smaller infill development, as well as commercial which may include the new business park.
Rochford District Council is seeking a highly motivated individual with a good level of experience in Building Control. You will have some experience with more complex building regulation applications and have a proven ability to facilitate and positively progress projects. A track record in how to market a building control service and develop new business would also be desirable.
You will be a key member of a small but growing Building Control team and have a desire to ensure that an effective and efficient service is provided that will meet the Council’s statutory responsibilities, performance management standards and ensure that the service is accountable and responsive to feedback. As post-holder you will be a senior member of the team and be comfortable with deputising for the team leader, as well as mentoring and motivating more junior team members and handling a personal caseload of high profile cases.
You will have a detailed knowledge of legislation and the skill to apply it to practical situations. Additionally you will engage with customers on a human level, ensuring that complex or difficult matters are explained in a polite and professional way. Above all you will have the drive, commitment and passion to win customers’ trust to ensure they will be repeat customers and form lasting ties with the services.
You should be familiar and comfortable liaising with elected Members, where necessary, as well as dealing with enquiries, complaints and other correspondence from clients and customers.
Applicants must also be keen to embrace the use off new technology where it improves the workings and delivery of the service, and may be expected to carry out some out of hours working, if and when required.
Ideally you will hold membership of RICS, CABE or COIB (or be eligible to). You will also have a driving license and daily access to a car.
If you feel that you would relish the opportunity and challenge to develop and shape a modern building control service to deliver high quality customer service and results we would very much like to hear from you.
