This role centres on delivering a range of therapeutic interventions to both children and their parents or carers, with a particular focus on addressing complex issues linked to harmful sexual behaviour and various forms of exploitation, including both sexual and criminal exploitation. You will play a vital role in providing coordinated and effective support to families with children and young people aged 0–25, often facing challenges such as developmental trauma, peer influence, and broader contextual harms.
You will carry out holistic assessments that consider a range of harms and take the lead in the development and implementation of outcome-focused family plans. You will work closely with families, professionals, and partner agencies to reduce harms associated with harmful sexual behaviour and exploitation and anti-social behaviour. In this role, you will be expected to contribute to safeguarding processes and risk management and take the lead in coordinating support, ensuring services are responsive and effective.
You should have a good understanding of child development, safeguarding principles, and the complexities families face when dealing with exploitation and contextual harm. Excellent communication, planning, and partnership-building skills are essential, along with the ability to build trusted relationships with children, parents and carers.
You will be working alongside police and multi-agency partners to identify and respond to community threats and risks. This includes contributing to intelligence gathering, mapping activity, and participating in multi-agency forums to ensure coordinated and strong multi-agency working.

The primary focus of this role is to deliver a mix of therapeutic interventions with both children and their parents or carers, addressing complex issues related to harmful sexual behaviour and forms of exploitation such as sexual and criminal exploitation. This is a key role in delivering coordinated and impactful interventions to families with children and young people aged 0–25, where challenges may include developmental trauma, peer dynamics, and wider contextual risks.
You should have a good understanding of child development, safeguarding, and the challenges families face when dealing with exploitation and other external harms. Strong communication, planning, and&nbsp;
partnership working skills are essential, as is the ability to build trusted relationships with parents and carers.
The targeted interventions will help parents and carers develop the skills and confidence they need to support their children’s wellbeing and development. You will deliver hands-on support and therapeutic interventions, with a strong emphasis on relationship-based and trauma-informed practice, aiming to improve outcomes for the whole family. You will also support parents in managing challenging behaviour and preventing escalation, helping them respond confidently and constructively to complex situations at home.
You will also undertake holistic assessments in relation to a variety of risks of harm and lead on the development and delivery of outcome-focused family plans. You will work closely with families, professionals, and partner agencies to reduce harms associated with harmful sexual behaviour and exploitation and anti-social behaviour. In this role, you will be expected to contribute to safeguarding processes and risk management and take the lead in coordinating support, ensuring services are responsive and effective.
A key aspect of the role is working in partnership with the police and other agencies to identify and respond to threats and risks in the community. This includes supporting intelligence gathering, mapping activity, and attending multi-agency forums to ensure timely action and joined-up working.
As part of the Advanced Social Worker role, you will assist and deputise in the absence of the Team Manager, and provide high-quality professional supervision, reflective supervision, appraisal, and support to others as appropriate, helping to identify and develop potential within the team.

About the Role:
As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you'll deliver person-centred counselling in line with BACP guidelines, working flexibly across the borough, including evenings and weekends. You'll collaborate with professionals across statutory, voluntary, and community sectors, contributing to safeguarding, service development, and early intervention strategies.
You will deliver confidential counselling to young people, escalating safeguarding concerns appropriately and keep accurate records, contributing to performance data. You will also support multi-agency working and service development and participate in supervision, training, and mentoring.

The Role
Sefton Adult Social Care are looking to recruit a Lead Practitioner to the Mental Health South Social Work Team based at South Sefton Neighbourhood Centre Waterloo, to support the delivery of the Adult Community Mental Health Services in the South of the borough.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Social Worker with a background in Mental Health to develop their Social Work practice and operational management skills in a busy multidisciplinary team, working with a diverse and complex service user group.
The Mental Health Team &nbsp;are co-located on the same site as health colleagues employed by Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust in the South Sefton Community Mental Health Team (CMHT), working closely with a range of different professionals including Community Psychiatric Nurses, Consultant Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists and Clinical Psychologists.
The Mental Health Team South is responsible for undertaking community and hospital-based casework for individuals with severe and enduring mental health problems, who are currently under the care of secondary mental health services, or detained/admitted to psychiatric hospital wards across the Local and Mid-Mersey Divisions.
The successful post holder will be highly experienced in undertaking a range of statutory interventions, including social care needs assessments under the Care Act 2014, Section 42 Safeguarding Enquiries, and excellent working knowledge of both the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and the Mental Health Act 1983 (amended 2007). Other relevant experience will include comprehensive knowledge of patient flow processes around hospital discharge planning, first hand experience of Court work, including COPDOL11 and Welfare Order Applications, and relevant experience working with service users in hospital and in the community on Forensic Sections, including Section 37/41 of the Mental Health Act, requiring Ministry of Justice oversight.
The successful post holder will be responsible for supporting the Social Work Team Manager in the delivery of statutory Adult Services to an excellent standard, and to ensure that all interventions under the Care Act 2014 are “strengths-based” in approach, and compatible with the national Adult Social Care CQC inspection framework.
The successful post holder will be expected to carry a small caseload of complex mental health cases, and to support the Social Work Team Manager with the operational management of the team, including but not limited to, attending multi-agency Professionals Meetings, chairing Safeguarding Strategy Meetings, overseeing and supporting the development of community assets under the Recovery Team model, and supporting ongoing staff development through mentoring, coaching and Supervision.
The successful applicant will ideally hold a PG Cert in Approved Mental Health Professional Practice (AMHP) and Best Interest Assessor (BIA) qualifications; or commit to undertaking the relevant training upon commencement of their post.
The successful applicant will be required to support the Sefton AMHP Service, including working on a duty AMHP rota in addition to their community-based responsibilities. Practice Educator qualification is also desirable.
