The Role
We are seeking dedicated and experienced Social Workers to join the Kinship Team within our Fostering Service. The Kinship Team are responsible for assessing potential Kinship Carers in addition to providing them with support and supervision in order to meet the needs of the children in their care.
In this role, you will provide support to ensure that our Kinship Carers meet the National Minimum Standards. The Social Worker’s role is to ensure that Kinship Carers are supported to provide a high standard of care to our most vulnerable children. &nbsp;&nbsp;We are looking for an experienced Social Worker who is able to balance the need to challenge with the need to provide support. We work with extended families to enable them to support the children that they care for, which we know can at times be difficult for them.

As a Social Worker on the Kinship Team, you will be expected to undertake the following:

<li>Assess potential Kinship Carers suitability to foster, or Special Guardians suitability to care for children until adulthood.</li>
<li>Complete regular home visits including unannounced visits during and following the assessment process.</li>
<li>Regular communication with everyone involved in the child or young person’s life including meetings, reviews and information sharing.</li>
<li>Support Kinship Carers to attend meetings, help with their report writing and ensure that they keep appropriate records.</li>
<li>Work with the child(ren)’s Social Worker and Kinship Carers to manage and maintain family time between the children and their parents.</li>
<li>Support the carers to access relevant training opportunities each carer may need.</li>
<li>Support carers to meet the national minimum standards and regulatory requirements which are needed to become a Kinship Carer.</li>
<li>Write balanced reports including annual foster carer reviews, present reviews at fostering panel with carers and contribute to writing standards of care/allegation reports when necessary.</li>
<li>Offer practical and emotional support to Kinship Carers.</li>
</ul>

The Role
We are seeking a newly qualified social worker to join North Somerset’s Youth Justice (YJPS) and Prevention Service which is a successful partnership between key partners including North Somerset Council, Police, Health Integrated Care Board and Education partners. We aim improve outcomes and wellbeing for children and victims of crime in North Somerset by embedding a child first and identity focused approach to practice across the Partnership. We see collaboration and participation with children, families and victims as central to our approach to achieving the overarching aim to improve the lives of children, victims and communities in North Somerset.
&nbsp;As part of this role you will also join our Social Care Academy. In our Academy, you will undertake your assessed and supported year in employment in a supported and scaffolded learning environment, and develop the skills you need to join a social work team when you are ready.
You will have a development plan will be individualised to your unique learning needs. You will be supported by the Academy manager, and a dedicated Practice Teacher to support your ASYE, as well as the support from the Youth Justice Team manager.
In the Academy, we will equip you with a working knowledge of our “Building Connection” practice approach, based on relational, restorative, trauma-informed practice. We will offer you regular learning &amp; development sessions on key areas of practice, an experienced buddy in your destination team to shadow and support you, and lots of opportunities to spend time with all our teams, to understand all stages of a child’s journey through support and intervention.&nbsp;

The Role

Our ISRO’s have responsibility for quality assuring the care planning and statutory review process for children and young people in the care of the Local Authority, chairing regular child in care reviews and monitoring progress of care planning. You will also chair Child Protection Conferences in line with current North Somerset Safeguarding Children Partnership procedures, as well as having quality assurance oversight for the duration of those plans.&nbsp;You will also have a key role in contributing towards the development of quality assurance activity across Children’s Services along with other colleagues ensuring service standards and impact upon children are adhered to.
North Somerset is embedding the Signs of Safety model into practice. CP conferences and children in care reviews reflect this and the ISRO/CP chairs need to be familiar with using this model to work with families and ensure children are supported by the best plans.&nbsp;You will need to have a sound knowledge of childcare legislation, safeguarding, inter-agency policies and procedures and current developments in children’s services.&nbsp; You will require substantial experience of working with children in care and children who are subject to child protection plans, including complex legal proceedings.&nbsp;
