This exciting senior manager role at Westminster includes exposure to over £2 Billion National Non Domestic Rate annual debit - the largest in the country, the lowest Council Tax in the country collectable from 125,000 domestic properties, 25,000 Housing Benefit claims, the fastest accounts closing in the history of the UK’s public sector (2016/17), gross expenditure in the region of £1bn, a balance sheet with over £2.5bn of net fixed assets. These are just some of the highlights that indicate that our Finance team is in a class of its own in the UK public sector. Add in shared, Tri-borough services and you have a complex function that manages a significant asset base. This is an opportunity to play a leading role in the strategic delivery of the revenues and benefits team.

Specifically, you’ll be:

  • Planning and managing the strategic development and service performance of the Housing and Council Tax Support Service, Revenue Services (Council Tax / NNDR/BIDS) and associated ancillary contracted services.
  • Providing subject matter expertise, timely advice and guidance on the impact of emerging and potential new issues/ policies/ legislation in relation to the Revenues and Benefits Services
  • Providing leadership and management to the staff to ensure the achievement of stated objectives which include the maximisation of revenue collection
  • Encouraging a culture of high performance and carry out reviews to ensure the service is efficient and offers value for money.

Fully IRRV qualified / extensive Revenues / benefits experience, you’re a driven and experienced finance professional. You’ve run a large service before and strive to implement high standards. Natural people skills help you drive team performance through coaching and motivation. Your skills also help you deliver change while managing political and cultural issues. Your credibility is based on broad and in-depth subject knowledge: you’re fully aware of the issues facing local government and can provide in depth expertise in Revenues and Housing Benefit administration.
