LB Islington, Planning and Development Planning Policy Team POST TITLE: Sustainability Officer - Planning Policy Team, Full time fixed term for three years GRADE: This is a Career Grade post ranging from SO1 to PO4 grades; we are looking to appoint towards the upper end of the scale at grades PO3 – PO4. Islington is a diverse and vibrant inner London borough, which continues to experience a large amount of development and change. Islington has a strong track record of developing and implementing bold and creative planning policies which ensure that development and change in the borough is delivered in a way which minimises Islington’s contribution to climate change and which respects environmental limits and improves quality of life. The review of the existing Local Plan is underway, and we are working to a very ambitious timescale for adoption. In this post you are likely to be involved in a range of tasks, such as taking forward the review of sustainability policies of the Local Plan, including commissioning and managing relevant evidence base studies; providing sustainability advice on planning applications and pre-applications as well as taking part in planning appeals; and working closely with other council departments to ensure that the council’s priorities are delivered. The post holder will also keep abreast of key national and London policy changes related to sustainability and ensure that elected members and senior officers are fully briefed on such changes. We are looking for a dynamic, positive and hardworking individual, with detailed knowledge and experience of sustainability policy, guidance and legislation and the challenges which local authorities face in delivering sustainable development.
