Hackney is London's most diverse and dynamic borough. Stretching from the edge of the City to the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, it is an area of rapid economic growth, particularly in the fields of technology, media, fashion and other such creative industries. Hackney boasts more green space than any other inner London Borough, is home to some of the capital's best schools and offers first class transport links to the City and Greater London. Hackney also offers excellent local public services and a thriving arts, cultural and retail sector which is fast making it one of London's most popular areas to live, work and visit. Our challenge is to make sure that our borough's economic growth provides benefits for everyone who live here and creates opportunities that will transform the lives of local people.
Hackney Council is looking for someone who is motivated, flexible and highly organised to assist in managing our Housing Services vehicle fleet. As Transport Officer, you will co-ordinate the operation of our vehicles, a role which is key in helping to provide housing repair and maintenance services to the Council residents.
Our fleet consists of over 140 vehicles that all require periodic checks and servicing. You will be responsible for producing and managing systems to ensure MOTs, insurance and vehicle maintenance are all managed and monitored effectively.
You will require excellent administrative and organisational skills, have an understanding of budgetary and financial controls, recording payments, purchase orders and invoicing. You will also manage and monitor our accident management system. You must have good IT skills and be able to manage a database and a variety of IT packages.
You will be monitoring our fleet contract and budgets, ensuring we maximise savings but continue to provide the best value for our service.
To thrive in this role, you will be required to manage a challenging workload, have the ability to work on your own initiative and deputise for your line manager when necessary. You will need excellent communication skills, being able efficiently respond to telephone and email queries. You must hold a full UK Driving Licence as you will occasionally be required to drive our vehicles to locations within the borough.
Please refer to the Job Description and Person Specification. It is essential that you include a supporting statement, addressing how your skills, knowledge and experience meet all aspects of the post, as indicated in the job description and person specification.
At Hackney, we are proud to go that extra mile for our customers and clients. We offer a work environment which is stimulating, fast moving and supportive, giving you an opportunity to display your skills whilst developing new ones within a high profile, high energy organisation.
