Role Overview
This is a&nbsp;public-facing, outdoor role&nbsp;where you’ll be responsible for helping to manage traffic flow and ensure parking regulations are followed. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys being active, working independently, and interacting with the public.
Key Responsibilities
<ul>
<li>
Patrolling&nbsp;streets and car parks on foot or in a vehicle to monitor parking compliance.</li>
<li>
Issuing Penalty Charge Notices (PCNs)&nbsp;to vehicles parked in contravention of regulations.</li>
<li>
Providing assistance&nbsp;to the public, including:</li>
<ul>
<li>Directions to local attractions or services</li>
<li>Information about parking rules and locations</li>
</ul>
<li>
Reporting issues&nbsp;such as damaged signs, road hazards, or abandoned vehicles.</li>
<li>
Using handheld devices&nbsp;to record information and communicate with the team.</li>
</ul>
You don’t need prior experience—full training is provided—but the following qualities are essential:
<ul>
<li>
Excellent communication: You’ll be the face of the council, so being approachable and clear is key.</li>
<li>
Customer service: Helping people with a wide range of queries, not just parking-related.</li>
<li>
Physical fitness: You’ll walk several miles a day, often in varying weather conditions.</li>
<li>
Teamwork and independence: You’ll work solo most of the time but stay in regular contact with your team.</li>

Working Hours

Schedule: 7.4 hours per day, 5 days a week</li>
<li>
Shifts: Between&nbsp;7:30 AM and 7:00 PM, on a&nbsp;two-week rotating cycle

We are looking for a School Crossing Patrol to ensure the safety of children, and other pedestrians, crossing the road at a designated point between specified times. The discharge of these duties must not be to the detriment of the welfare of other road users.To carry out the Council’s policy with regard to the SCP Service which includes Health and Safety Procedures.To use all uniform and equipment provided for the safety of yourself, children and all other members of the public, especially when stopping traffic on the Highway.Maintain control over children who are awaiting your instructions to cross. When children need to cross the road, the post holder will walk to the middle of the road, wait for a gap in traffic and then escort the children across the road.Report any problems or difficulties to the Manager of the SCP Service.The post holder will report any concerns regarding children’s behaviour to the appropriate person.The post holder may be required to write a report about any incidents.The post holder will be required to use a stop sign.The post holder will be required to communicate with members of the public, and may be exposed to verbal abuse from parents and members of the public.There is a need for concentrated sensory attention in short periods The post holder will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check. Career Progression Frameworks (CPF) have been introduced for all roles at Medway Council.
