Our Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship Pathway consists of an exciting 3-year opportunity to build on your problem solving and analytical skills, and apply your ‘can-do’ attitude whilst working towards a Heavy vehicle (HV) service and maintenance technician qualification. Successful applicants will join the Depots, Facilities and Special Projects Team within the Council who are responsible for the high quality maintenance of Heavy Goods Vehicles which includes all types of waste collection and street cleansing vehicles. Working as part of a diverse, friendly and well respected team, your role will be varied and no two days will be the same. The Job – In this apprenticeship role you will: • Work as part of a team to provide high quality maintenance to Council heavy goods vehicles in a safe and efficient workshop; • Communicate effectively in both oral and written mediums on a range of topics that will support, HV inspection and diagnosing techniques; • Learn about strict health & safety guidelines at work; • Working alongside an experienced engineer to learn their daily functions which includes using a range of diagnostic and electrical measuring equipment to identify faults and underlying causes on HV’s; • Develop professional relationships with your own team and with others we work alongside and to whom we provide services. Training and Development – Within your role you will: • Complete a Heavy vehicle service and maintenance technician level 3 qualification funded by the Council. This will involve attendance at a college and completing tasks in the workplace (depending on specific course requirement) and will provide both practical and theory-based qualifications. College based learning occurs every 2 months and is delivered via week long residential stay at a training centre. • Join the Apprenticeship Pathway personal and professional development programme that will involve a series of varied development activities and events throughout your time with the Council. Moving on After you have successfully completed your Apprenticeship Pathway you will have gained valuable workplace experience and attained a professional qualification which will improve your chances of finding work either within the Council or with another employer or help you move on to a higher level apprenticeship elsewhere. You will have networked across the Council and be aware of the internal job market during your time with us and we will provide support on your approach to the wider job market as part of your development programme. The Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship Pathway is ideal for those who are reliable, adaptable and enthusiastic about providing a quality service. To apply for this pathway, you must: • Be an 18+ Islington resident, Islington care leaver or former Islington secondary school student.
