Youth Offending Service Officer

Hounslow Youth Offending Service is committed to achieving positive outcomes for young people who have offended, and we are seeking a dynamic, motivated individual with the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to assist the service in putting this into practice.

You will demonstrate an understanding of the challenges faced by young people who have offended and the factors that cause young people to get involved in offending behaviour. You will have experience of working with young people who have offended in either a voluntary or statutory setting and have good written and verbal communication skills.

You will also be able to demonstrate that you have good assessment and planning skills and are able to effectively engage young people and their parents/carers.

To be considered for this position, you need to have a recognised qualification in Social Work or Probation Studies. Applicants with a Social Work qualification will also be expected to be HCPC registered.

Fluency Duty

This post is considered by the authority to be a customer-facing position; as such it falls within the scope of the Code of Practice on English language requirement for public sector workers. The council therefore has a statutory duty under Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 to ensure that post holders have a command of spoken English sufficient for the effective performance of the job requirements. At the interview questions, you will be assessed for the following two criteria:

  • To be able to speak with confidence and accuracy, demonstrating appropriate skills in spoken English for the effective performance of the tasks required for this role.
  • To be able to listen to customers, understand their needs and tailor their response in a way that demonstrates a high level of customer care, even in complex or difficult situations.
