Job Introduction

Starting salary for this role is £44,075 (pro rata for part-time colleagues)

This role sits within a well defined pay band, offering clear progression as you grow your career at BCP. Consultant Social Worker

People & Culture – Social Care Workforce Development Team
Hours: Full-time (37 hours) or part-time considered – please state your preference in your application

About the Role

As a Consultant Social Worker, you will play an important role in supporting workforce development and enhancing professional practice across Adult and Children’s Social Care, with a primary focus on the adult workforce.

Working as part of a collaborative team, you will contribute to the delivery of the People & Culture Strategy and support the implementation of workforce development priorities. You will help design and deliver high-quality, evidence-informed learning and work alongside colleagues and partners to support continuous improvement in practice.


Key Responsibilities

  • Promote and model good social work values, knowledge and evidence-informed practice
  • Support the design and delivery of learning opportunities, including workshops, reflective spaces and development activities
  • Support practitioners and managers, through methods such as coaching and mentoring, to create and develop a culture of continuous learning and development
  • Contribute to blended learning approaches, working in partnership with key stakeholders including Higher Education Institutions (HEIs)
  • Use feedback, audit findings and workforce insights to support learning needs analysis
  • Work collaboratively with the Principal Social Workers, Heads of Service and wider stakeholders
  • Contribute to projects aligned to workforce development priorities

What We’re Looking For

  • Registered with Social Work England with relevant frontline experience
  • Good understanding of current legislation, policy and practice, particularly within Adult Social Care
  • Experience of supporting others through mentoring, coaching or practice support
  • Practice Educator qualification (or willingness to work towards)
  • Ability to reflect on practice and support the development of others
  • Strong communication, facilitation and partnership working skills
  • Commitment to continuous learning and improving practice

  • The role will involve working across BCP Council and with partner organisations
