Job summary

We are seeking a Relativity Manager to join the Afghanistan Inquiry Response Unit (AIRU) within the Ministry of Defence. AIRU has been using the eDisclosure platform, Relativity as its primary system to respond to the multiple requests MOD receives from the Inquiry successfully for the past 18 months.

This is a role that will require the individual to operate at pace to ensure that the Department is meeting expectations set by the Inquiry. This role provides vital contributions to AIRU output and is an integral part of our delivery team to manage vast volumes of data and manage the flow of information and disclosure provided to the Independent Afghanistan Inquiry Legal Team on Relativity. The role holder will help to develop internal expertise in Relativity and manage aspects of the application alongside the other members of the AIRU Relativity team. You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of training and mentoring for staff across AIRU to increase usage of the platform.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week. There will be a requirement for in office working at MOD Main Building 5 days a week due to the access required to the platform, but flexible working options such as compressed hours are available.

Job description

Defence and Security Policy (DSP) has established a dedicated team to lead the MOD’s response to the Inquiry. This is a very high-profile area with strong Ministerial, senior official and military interest. Responding effectively is critical to ensuring public trust and it is essential we do so at pace to meet the ambition of the Chair whilst supporting our people.

The role will focus on supporting the Delivery team, who act as the interface between the MOD and the Inquiry. It will require engagement with cross-Department stakeholders at pace and close working with legal teams to ensure that the Department is responding to a wide range of requests from the Inquiry within tight deadlines. The successful candidate will be highly organised, proactive, and have strong information management skills in helping establish and maintain effective processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Support the application of complex workflows to deliver litigation related outcomes;
  • Play a central role in the disclosure process by creating processes and practices to follow in respect to the eDisclosure platform usage, ensuring compliance with MOD overarching policy;
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with legal colleagues to fulfil disclosure requirements;
  • Support capability building and knowledge sharing of the eDisclosure platform, Relativity.
  • Processing and preparing data for review;
  • Searching, reviewing and analysing date;
  • Creating disclosure productions;
  • Collation and ingestion of data
  • Support the SEO Relativity Manager in running the application and creating efficiencies.

    You will work alongside external lawyers and disclosure support services who will provide advanced-level disclosure support and guidance in the use of Relativity as required. In this role you will be expected to be willing to learn and develop new skills to maximise the benefits of the platform.

This is a Fixed-term Appointment as a Relativity Manager in the Afghanistan Inquiry Response Unit. Your responsibilities will be as described in this job advert. The reason why you are appointed for a fixed period is due to the the team lasting for the duration of the Inquiry only. This post will therefore begin on your appointment and end 23 months after that date. You should be aware that when your Fixed-term Appointment at MOD comes to an end, arrangements will be made in line with the FTA policy.

If you are a permanent MoD civil servant and are found successful for an advertised Fixed-term Appointment (FTA) you should move into the post under a Temporary Transfer (for up to a maximum of 23 months). At the end of the posting you will return to your previous MoD Business area. If this posting is at a higher grade, your promotion will be temporary, and you will return to your substantive grade at the end of the Temporary Transfer. If a Temporary Transfer cannot be agreed between all parties then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA and Change of Work Location in the UK policy for further information.

If you are transferring to MoD from another government department (OGD) you should join the MoD on an inward loan. At the end of the loan you will return to your home (OGD) department. If a loan cannot be agreed between all parties then a transfer on an FTA contract is possible, read the FTA policy for further information.

This appointment is offered on a fixed-term basis; however, there may be the possibility of an extension subject to business requirements.
